Tinsley couldn't think, but that was only part of the problem. She didn't want to think, but she was afraid of being blank. Without thoughts, without feelings. On the line of struggling to forget, but fighting to remember. If only someone would erase her memories, that just might help. It was getting late at Hogwarts, but no one told Tinsley to leave the library. For the most part, people have been avoiding her like the plague. Or- she was avoiding them. The point is, she felt empty. Hollow. Part of her wanted to be with someone, but that always ends up...badly. She didn't know how to act anymore, how to make people feel better. It had always been so simple- just tell what they wanted to hear. Stand still, be pretty. Keep up...nothing. She could barely remember how frusterated she felt before, being treated that way.
The rational part of Tinsley just wanted everything to go back to the way it had been before. It had been so easy to just play her role, as tiring as it had been. But it seems so much better than what it is now. Tinsley, the usual master of the calm and free-spirited act, was a complete mess. And to top it off- she was failing her best subject. Potions is usually her cup of tea, something she does in her spare time. But despite her history with the lovely subject, even Slughorn can't deny the fact that she's lost her touch. At night, Tinsley hadn't been able to sleep. The only thing that seems to put her to bed would be a nice, cold glass of firewhiskey. And so she would drink, until she's too tired to lift the glass up anymore. In the morning, Potions would be hell. Seeing that it's her first period, Tinsley usually went to class with a raging hangover. Now, Tinsley had been the poster child for everything good [ that you can find in a teenager ], so she wasn't a heavy drinker. Hence the fact she's not one who should try and hold it down. That, and her body build didn't help one bit. It was becoming a tortured cycle.
Pursing her lips a bit, Tinley pushed her long flowing chestnut hair out of her eyes. Lately, it seemed, there was always something wrong. Nothing that she can really name, but the feeling lingers. A surivor of guilt, so one would say. Selfishly, Tinsley wanted nothing more than to get rid herself of guilt. She wanted everything back to normal, as it's been stated for the second or third time. But as many times as Tinsley could repeat it, it probably wasn't going to happen.
Her table was covered with almost every single potion-related book in the library, nearly covering Tinsley herself. She hadn't spoken to her parents since the death, too afraid of what they might say. It was time to distract herself- even if it means homework. Flipping the page, Tinsley tried to read the dull words on the page. Nothing seems to enter her mind, as much as Tinsley tried to pay attention.
Nothing at all.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LEAVEMYDOOROPENJUSTACRACK ((T A K E M E A W A Y F R O M H E R E)) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Fourteen year old girls shouldn't be allowed to date, ever. Well, especially if they were Jonathan's little sister. The Ravenclaw had just left a rather interesting conversation with Alyson, one which he really wished he'd never had. Apparently she was dating some guy in Gryffindor, one whom he'd never heard of, which just made him worry all the more. Of course his sister had previous crushes but she had never actually pursued any of them. Now he was going to have to put on the costume of the overprotective brother and find our exactly who this bloke was.
Jonathan began roaming the fourth corridor, attempting to get his mind off of his sister and this undoubtedly piece of vermin she was now associating herself with these days. He pretended as though he was wandering around aimlessly but everyone who knew him could have guessed where he would inevitably end up, the library.
After passing through the ornately decorated doors leading to the library, he headed towards the Muggle Studies section. Sophia had recently told him about a muggle author, one who had written a rather dull play, but Jonathan's curiosity had been aroused and now he wanted to know more about this character. However, Jonathan's memory was playing tricks on him and he couldn't remember the exact name of the guy, he just remembered it was stereotypically French. After flipping through a few random books, he gave up his quest as it was rather useless when he couldn't even remember the name of the author.
On his way over towards the History of Magic section, a favorite of his, he noticed a familiar figure. Tinsley Woods sat at a table completely cluttered with books. He recognized a few of them, given that he'd read just about every Potions books he could ever get his hands on. His brows furrowed at this; she had always been exceptionally talented at Potions. Ah, of course. Of course she wouldn't be doing so hot these days...not after what had happened. He felt guilty for not having spoken to her since the incident but he knew if he had been in the same situation, he wouldn't have felt like talking to anyone. He figured she had needed space more than anything at the time. But now, now maybe she just needed someone to talk to. He would have offered to help her with Potions but granted that she was a year older than himself, she probably was the one who could teach him a thing or two.
After standing there for a minute, contemplating the pros and cons of walking over there or leaving her alone, he decided he would be a pretty crummy friend if he simply ignored the situation and walked away. But was he supposed to bring up what had happened? Was that the protocol for a situation like this? After walking over to her table, he sat down in a chair opposite her, setting his bag down on the floor.
"Doing a bit of light reading?" he asked jokingly but very awkwardly. He really wasn't all that great with these kinds of conversations, mainly because he had no idea what to say.

She was nearly at the point of falling asleep, at the rate she was going. Tinsley couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed in herself. She had been an ace at Potions, it was becoming a second nature. Brewing lovely little potions had always relaxed her nerves, helped her away from everything. The words in the book should've been a second language to her, but now they just seem foreign. Tinsley bit her lip, one of her signs of stress. Needless to say, it was something she hasn't done in a while. She flipped the page once again, with little heart. Tinsley didn't want to admit it, but perhaps Mrs. Malfoy was right.
She had been so different before the incident. Really, Tinsley attempted everything...well, everything but Quidditch. She thought she could make something out of herself, to prove that she was more than just a Wood. A simple Wood whose had everything handed to her. The endless nights of desperately wishing to be something more seemed pointless now. What she should've done was more. She should've spent more time with her brother. More time reconnecting with old friends, who were left standing the dust. More anything.
And as fate would have it, someone was approaching her. Tinsley didn't look up for a moment or two, certain that whoever this is- they weren't there for her.
Doing a bit of light reading?
Startled, Tinsley couldn't help but look up. For the first time in days, she could almost feel a tiny smile appear on her face. But as luck would have it, it still remains at an almost. But for the sake of her old friend, she attempted a smile. How long as she known Jonathan Hardcastle? If she would admit, a while. For a moment, long lasting memories flooded back to her. Endless hours of just talking, like what friend's do, came to her. It seemed like so long ago, though.
It was ridiculous. In a way, Tinsley's always sort of hid behind him. In her opinion, Jonathan was ten times better than most boys at Hogwarts [ most, not all ]. He was nice and caring, and most importantly- he didn't match up to her father's dire warning of males at all. The funny thing was, there was so much more that he didn't know. And most importantly- things he will never know.
" Just catching up on some work, " Tinsley admitted, struck by the sudden pleasure of being with an old friend. Truthfully, she's almost the one to disappear. Like with Roxanne. Closing the dusty book shut, she turned to face him. " Am I interrupting a Ravenclaw's pasttime? " Tinsley added, a smile tugging on her lips.
It's been a while since she's been able to honestly answer a question. To show that she has a personality of her own. Even before the incident, really. Only a few people can drag her soul out of her her, breaking down the walls she's built. Roxanne, Jonathan, etc. And that one boy from the lake. But Tinsley didn't want to think about old friendships and such right now.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LEAVEMYDOOROPENJUSTACRACK ((T A K E M E A W A Y F R O M H E R E)) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jonathan had always been an observant person and he couldn't help but notice that Tinsley had on a painted smile; one which didn't fool him. When she was truly smiling, her eyes smiled along with her lips and this smile wasn't reaching her brown eyes. Though he wasn't really one to call someone out, she was obviously trying to put on the show that she was happy. Hopefully she knew that he was always there for her, if she did want to talk about what was bothering her.
The two of them had been friends for years. At one point in time, Jonathan had possessed feelings for her that weren't necessarily platonic. That had been years ago though back before his relationship with Roxanne. Of course he had never acted on those feelings, he wasn't exactly a go-getter sort of guy. He was thankful he'd never done anything about it or they probably wouldn't have the same friendship they have now. They were completely comfortable with one another, spending hours alone just talking. It was a friendship that required very little effort.
"Catching up on Potions? I wouldn't have thought you were the type to fall behind in that class," he replied jokingly, though at the same time he meant what he'd said. She was just about the only person, outside of Slughorn that is, whom he came to for help with Potions. She was good to say the least. He laughed at her joke. "Seriously. I'm surprised to see a Gyrffindor in here, I thought us Ravenclaws were the only ones who utilized the library," he teased, sliding one of the books over towards him and looking at the title absentmindedly.
"So I just found out that my sister is dating someone. Can you believe that?" he asked rhetorically, trying to keep the mood light. "And she'll only tell me that his name is Greg." Alyson could be really frustrating sometimes. If she was going to date at her age, which she shouldn't in his opinion, she should at least have the decency to give him a full name so he could meet the guy. "Is that normal behavior for a fourteen year old girl?" he asked, his protective side showing clearly.
It wasn't until that moment that Jonathan realized he probably shouldn't be talking about his problems right now. The recent memory of her fake smile flashed before him, causing his protectiveness to shift from his sister to Tinsley, who actually might as well be his sister these days. Quickly recovering from his rant he added, "Actually, you know what? The more I talk about that the more frustrated I'm going to get." A brief smile flashed on his face, "So, tell me whats been going on with you, other than catching up on Potions that is." He tried not to let his concern show too much, he was generally good with masking emotions but now around people who knew him as well as Tinsley did.

This was precisely the reason why Tinsley had built those walls in the first place. Eventually, someone would see through her crafty mask. They'll be able to tell lies from the truth, and most importantly- they just might see something they don't like. Her ambition to the best. The desire to prove herself. The thrist to be more than a Wood. Eventually, the dark side would come out. Maybe she was getting paranoid, but being with Jonathan didn't feel like as if something was leaking out of her. Her fears weren't increased- they were forgotten.
Catching up on Potions? I wouldn't have thought you were the type to fall behind in that class,
For the first time in a while, Tinsley could almost feel the smile on her face becoming a real one. It was the way he knew her- it was unnerving, yes. She hadn't realized she was so easy to read once you get close enough. But it was comforting, at the very least. And of course, Tinsley couldn't forget about al the times when she had to tutor Jonathan. Not that he really needed it, but it was fun. From messy mess-ups to a successful brew, they've always enjoyed themselves. Of course, Tinsley just mostly enjoyed being around him, much more than the actual potions themselves.
" Oh, you know. Can't be Potion Master's favorite forever. The Wood's legacy have to die down at some point. " Tinsley replied, giving him a real smile this time. It's been so long, she honestly couldn't tell the difference between her fake and her real smile.
" You're right. But there isn't anyone that really needs the rescue of a gallant Gryffindor right now. " Tinsley continued, a brief look of amusement passing through her face.
Oh, yes. Another good thing about Jonathan. He always knew how to take her mind off of something. And unlike most people with their problems, Tinsley could care. As she listened to him talk about his adorable little sister, Tinsley couldn't believe how much time has passed by since they've last talked to each other. Little Alyson was dating now? A smile tugged on her lips as Jonathan expressed, probably not on purpse, his worries.
Before she knew it, Tinsley was speaking. "Well, I'm probably not the best expert on males. " Tinsley started, fingering her hair. It was true, Jonathan knew that better than anyone. Despite their best attemps, Tinsley hardly ever gave them a second look. It wasn't as if she though she was too good for them, but they were all the same. Either they wanted something or...well, that's always been the reason. Tinsley has yet to see any difference. Relationships were just so...complicated. Friendships were easier to manage.
" But it could be a lot worse. Besides, your sister knows that she has you around if anything goes bad. " Tinsley told him, almost as if she was lecturing him. She probably should've realized the same thing goes for her, but truthfully- she's never thought about it. As his questions continued, Tinsley gave a half-hearted shrug.
He was such a liar, Tinsley thought with a geniune amusement. A part of her was touched. Another part was amused that he would try to act casual. But still, the least Tinsley could do would be to tell the truth. " It's been...hard. My parents...they're still in shock, I think. The family whole is. " It didn't take long for Tinsley to realize that she was almost giving a report on what her family's reactions. Her feelings? They were too jumbled up to tell apart.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LEAVEMYDOOROPENJUSTACRACK ((T A K E M E A W A Y F R O M H E R E)) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jonathan could remember their Potions sessions together. There had been a few times where he'd actually needed the help but for the most part, it was just something that they both enjoyed doing together. Sometimes they ended up being a disaster, like the couple of times they had tried to brew up their own original potions. He'd almost managed to melt his entire cauldron during one of those sessions. Despite whatever happened, all of these tutoring sessions had ended in laughter.
It was times like those which he knew he'd look back on fondly once he graduated, which was odd to think that would be a year from now. An even stranger thought was Tinsley actually graduating soon. His last year at Hogwarts would certainly be different without her presence. That was a depressing thought but he knew they didn't have the kind of friendship which would disappear because of something minor like physical distance. They had known each other much too long for something like that to affect them.
"I guess you can't be the favorite forever. Excellent, I've been waiting to snag the title of the Potions Master's favorite for sometime now," he teased lightly, flashing her a lopsided smile. He was thankful to see that the smile which she had given him was a genuine Tinsley Wood's smile; there didn't appear to be anything fake about it. He'd been worried that talking to her might make her upset, that she might have preferred to be alone. Jonathan was pleased to see that he had been wrong to worry.
He laughed. "Oh I'm sure you can find some little first year getting bullied by a Slytherin somewhere," he teased. The house rivalry between Gryffindor and Slytherin had always been amusing to him and he was thankful that he had the option to stay completely out of the picture. Both houses had both good and bad eggs in his opinion.
He could see Tinsley smiling as he talked about his sister. There was nothing amusing about Alyson dating, nothing at all. She had seriously just turned fourteen...fourteen for Merlin's sake. Jonathan knew what teenage boys were after or at least the majority of them. Then a horrifying thought occurred to him. He'd never bothered to ask Alyson how old the guy was. What if she was dating an older student?
"Well she needs to take a leaf out of your book. I don't really like the idea of her becoming an expert on males," he replied, a disgusted look crossed his face momentarily. Tinsley had always been good in that department. She generally knew which boys were worth her time and which ones were just bad news. Of course, she'd learned this through trial and error but she had a good head on her shoulders when it came to that sort of stuff. His sister had no idea what she was getting herself into. Dating? Inevitable heartbreak. Ever since Roxanne cheated on him, Jonathan hadn't exactly been optimistic about relationships. Tinsley knew that, she had to watch him cry a couple of times over it...something which still embarrassed the Ravenclaw.
He gave a short, humorless laugh. "I doubt she'd come to me. She won't even tell me who she is allegedly dating," he commented, trying to not show his frustration. A mischievous smile crept on his face, "Y'know, Tins, she's always liked you. You could ask her about it." Alyson had always been a big fan of Tinsley.
There was no chance of hiding his concern now. He leaned forward without thinking about it. "Yeah, I can imagine your family is having a really difficult time. Its just...well tragic," he replied, stating the obvious. He wasn't very good at these sorts of things, he ended up just getting awkward. "Are you doing okay though? I know you can't be doing smashing or anything..." his voice trailed off towards the end. What a stupid question. Of course she wasn't okay.

If there's one thing Tinsley didn't like to do was to look foward in the future. For that, she was very grateful that Hogwarts have finally rid themselves of Seers. She didn't want to know the future. What if it contained nothing but the worst? Her brother was dead- something her family would never get over. She was leaving Hogwarts next year- possibly failing her NEWTs. And unfortunately, she still had to reconnect old bridges. And perhaps build new ones, as Tinsley's thoughts flickered. But to be honest- it wasn't something she was looking forward to. After all, Tinsley has already proven herself incapable of keeping relationships, except with a few.
It was strange- Tinsley wasn't the protector. She never had a reason to be, until recently. Usually, she was the one being protected. For what exactly? Apparently, she'll never find out. For years, she's pondered about this. What was it about her that made people think she was incapable of handling bad news? Her appearance? Her personality? Her houes? Her comparison to her siblings? But still, she doesn't have an answer. Tinsley wasn't stupid- she knew Jonathan was an extremely likable guy. Surely, he has plently of friends. So there's no need to worry about him...yet. Besides, University students were known to dodge back to the castles at night. It sounds like something the free-spirited Tinsley would do.
At this point, he had finally managed to drag a laugh out of Tinsley. It wasn't the new, harden verison either. It was an honest-to-goodness Tinsley laugh. The laugh of bubbling child, almost. " Oh, I wouldn't think that far ahead. I think you might have competition, Tinsley said, the laugh still on her face.
Tinsley's thoughts veered off again when he mentiond the Slytherins. A large population of the Woods have been placed in Gryffindor. Some in Ravenclaw. Very few in Hufflepuff. But as far as the family history tree was concerned- none has ever been placed in Slytherin. Her parents were openly distasteful to the Snakes, but Tinsley never really had an opinion. Well, until now. There was a fork in the road. First, a Slytherin did kill her brother. But there was something else too.
" Well. " Tinsley started slowly, unsure how to approach. " I'm sure there are good Slytherins out there. " Her voice was uncertain, much like herself. In all honesty, she didn't know much about the house of snakes. But there was still hope, wasn't there?
Tinsley watched the worry deepen in Jonathan's face. A flash of pity went through her. Poor boy- he was truly worried about Alyson. If only more boys were like him, the world would probably be a better place. No- she knew the world would be a better place. She knew Jonathan has had more than his fair share of heartaches. Tinsley didn't know the whole story, but somehow- she's managed to get parts of it out. Roxanne- can you believe it? had cheated on Jonathan with another boy. Whoever this boy is, Tinsley has no clue. But still, she's managed to keep a safe zone during that time of grief- comforting both sides.
" I'm sure Alyson will be fine. I know her, she's a good kid. But if it makes you feel better, I'll talk to her. And besides, if anything does go wrong- we'll be here. The boy has yet to feel the wrath of Jonathan Hardcastle, " Tinsley told him in a calm voice, clearly hoping that'll help. She didn't want to bring up old subjects, but maybe she needed to. Tinsley wasn't the tough love kind of person, she was the gentle and comforting side. How much that'll actually help- who knows.
Speaking again in her naturally soft voice, Tinsley begun. " I know you don't like to talk about it...but are you okay? I mean...with Roxanne. It's been a while, I know. But did you ever learn the whole story? " A flash of concern went through Tinsley. Did he ever learn who Roxanne cheated on him with? Did they make up? And where on Earth was Tinsley when Jonathan and Roxanne needed her? What a wonderful friend she was.
Tinsley was brought back to Earth on his last question. But to her utter surprise- it didn't hurt as much as it usually did. Who knew talking to an old friend would help so much. Giving him a small smile, Tinsley shrugged again. " It hurts. I should've saved him, but I couldn't. " Being it's the first time she's ever spoken about this, she was surprised by the tone of her voice. It was filled with sorrow, guilt, and perhaps just a hint of remorse and anger.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LEAVEMYDOOROPENJUSTACRACK ((T A K E M E A W A Y F R O M H E R E)) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The sight of Tinsley coupled with the many Potions books which were scattered upon the table got Jonathan thinking about the future. He was always one to plan, he had everything mapped out for himself at a very young age. While most young girls planned their dream weddings early on, he'd been thinking about his career. For the most part, he'd always known that he wanted to become a Healer. But now that graduation was nearing, just barely a year away, he couldn't help but be frightened by it. This school had been everything to him in the last six years and it was horrifying to think of life outside of those walls which he had become so accustomed to.
He couldn't foresee a future for himself that would place him back into Hogwarts. Within a year, this place would be nothing but a memory for him. Change wasn't something the Ravenclaw was comfortable with, he never had been. There were people he would never see again. Preferably, those would be people whom he felt indifferent towards but he wasn't idiotic enough to believe that was completely truthful. But attending school without Tinsley there, that was just such a foreign idea that he had a difficult time wrapping his mind around it. Both she and Sophia had been his go-to girls, they'd always been there for him no matter what kind of trouble he had found. He knew he'd be writing her the next year almost as frequently as his mother.
It was nice to hear her laugh. After everything she had gone through recently, he wouldn't have expected to hear her childish giggle. He knew he wouldn't be in a laughing mood if the same had happened to him. "You know I'm a shoe-in for that position," he replied, faking cockiness. "I've been waiting for the day your relinquished your throne," he teased, halfway sticking his tongue out at her in a rather childish manner.
Jonathan couldn't help but laugh at the uncertainty in her voice. "You sound so sure of yourself," he commented sarcastically. "Every house has their good and bad eggs, some are just more prominent than others." Tinsley had never been one to express hatred towards any of the houses, even Slytherin. So the uncertainty in her tone was a little surprising to him but he decided it would be best not to comment on it.
He had to chuckle at her comment about his wrath. Most people had never seen him truly angry, he had gotten a lot better at controlling his temper in recent years. But if anyone wanted to see that dark side of his character, it was easy to see which buttons needed to be pushed. If anyone hurt a family member or one of his close friends, he turned into a vengeful person. It wasn't something he was proud of by any means but it was something he'd come to accept about himself.
"Believe me, if he hurts her I'll hex him right into the next century," he replied with a more serious tone than the conversation really called for. "But you're right, she's a good kid. Hopefully she's got a good head on her shoulders when it comes to guys," he added, rubbing his chin with his fingers. "I guess this had to happen eventually. I just was hoping she'd be thirty when it did," he mused with a small laugh. It was unrealistic but an older brother could hope, couldn't he?
Jonathan winced when she brought up Roxanne though hopefully it wasn't too obvious. Tinsley had been there through everything, seriously everything. It had been almost a year since the incident and it was pathetic that in all honesty he was completely over what had happened. He'd truly been in love with her but sometimes, as cliche as it sounded, love just wasn't enough, especially unrequited love. "Yeah, I actually did end up figuring it all out. She cheated on me with this Slytherin guy, James Evans," he confessed. He was unable to look her in the eyes because he was honestly ashamed of himself for not recovering from it more quickly. Everyone had their own heartbreaks; he was just being a big pansy about his. "But thanks for your concern, it really means a lot to me," he added, flashing a weak smile at her even though his words were sincere.
He looked at her sadly after her response. She was obviously suffering from a case of survivor's guilt. "Well no one blames for you not stopping it. There really was nothing you could do, so there's no sense in beating yourself up about it," he told her, sincerity dripping from every word. He really wished he had something more to say, something which would actually make a difference. When talking about her brother her responses were short and Jonathan wondered if he should drop the conversation entirely. "Would you rather not talk about it?" he asked softly.

As much as Tinsley loathed the idea of moving on to the unknown, she was somewhat thrilled. Don't get her wrong- she loves Hogwarts. Every nook and every hook- she's passed by them ever since Katie and Oliver Wood took her on a tour. Though, admittedly, they kept dragging her to the Quidditch field. But still, Hogwarts had become her home. At her real home, everything was picture perfect. Everything was already planned out, everything was spotless. Every morning, Oliver would kiss his wife goodbye and head out to coach the number one quidditch team in the country. Katie would wait around for her children before leaving for the Ministry. Her sister would lounge around for a while before going out to the backyard to play quidditch with their brothers.
After several years of mostly rejections, they would only half-hearted ask Tinsley to join. But they all knew the answer. It was one of the many things that seperated them from each other. Meanwhile, Tinsley would go off the woods and try to do something productive. She hated to admit it, but she honestly hates the meals at her house. Despite her hardest attempts, she could never find anything to live up to her sibling's achievement. Like many things, it seemed as though success comes naturally to them. At dinner, everyone would share their stories like one happy family. But even Tinsley couldn't miss that tiny flash of pity that goes toward her general direction.
Most people wouldn't have dared to tease or to taunt her. It wasn't because they thought Tinsley was a huge threat, just look at her!, but because, in her opinion, there was something wrong with her. Something that blocked her from the teenage population. For a while, Tinsley just gave up making sense of it. But most luckily, it didn't have the same effect on Jonathan. " Well you never know. At this rate, I'll probably still be here when you're ready to go on. " Tinsley told him, with a little half-smile. The thought of disappointing her parents had always been something that scared Tinsley. They had their doubts, yes- but so did Tinsley.
At his next comment, Tinsley just shrugged. Yes, that was true. It was all matter of views, of course. If you were in with the general population of your house- you'd barely notice it. But if you were someone who has strayed away from your house, you'd certainly notice the dark side to people that no one else ever seems to notice. Could the same apply to her? Tinsley has never been the one who constantly asks for attention. If anything, it comes to her. But for the most part, she had no idea what to do with it.
There was something familiar about the way he spoke of his sister. Painfully familiar, almost. It took Tinsley a few moments to sort out those emotions. Finally, they landed on a spot that was still quite touchy to Tinsley. But it was something she had experienced with, something she never wished for. Of course, she wasn't completely sure about this theory, but if it helps... " Johnny, if there's anything I do, it's how it's like to be...the baby of the family. " Her tone has unusually turned into something bitter, almost remorseful. " You can't protect her forever. You have to let her get hurt, make her mistakes. If you try and keep her in a bubble, she'll only want to break out of it even more. " For a moment, Tinsley had to stop herself in order to keep on track. Alyson. They were talking about Alyson. Think, Tinsley. She commanded, almost begged, herself.
Tinsley instantly regretted bring up the subject. Of course it would be a sore subject- why wouldn't it? A part of her wanted to deny that Roxanne would do such thing. She could barely remember her own reaction when she was greeted with parts of the story. Tinsley had always managed to stray away from heartaches and heartbreaks. The solution had been simple; stay away from relationships. She's never actually fell in love, the closest thing had been with Jonathan. But like always, she was always more comfortable with friendship.
Without thinking the slightest bit, she reached out to put a hand on Jonathan's shoulder, as if that would comfort him. But as he spoke again, something hit her. It was no doubt due to the amount of firewhiskey and stress that had been there for Tinsley even since the incident, of course. But she couldn't help think that the name struck a nerve. She couldn't place a finger on it, but she was almost certain that she's heard it before. Now that was odd- she wasn't one to be surrounded by mobs of males. A few loved ones, maybe. Tinsley didn't want to drag the subject even further, but the curiosity was took much to bare. " I've heard that name before. Somewhere. " It was becoming painful, now.
Tinsley bit her lip in regret. Was her smile just as a fake? It took her a moment to realize that her hand was still on his shoulder. Her lips parted in shock for a moment- she hadn't realized that she had moved it. Taking it back, she spoke without thinking. " Of course. You know that I'll be here. "
Tinsley gave him a look of apology and care. Of course, this was the first time she's ever talked about it. Even Mrs.Malfoy hadn't managed to drag this much out of her. For weeks, all Tinsley would say would be about how her family was reacting. Not on purpose, but not on accident either. " I still think there should've been something I could've done. " At his next question, she stopped. Tinsley had been blocking this conversation out for the longest time. But that time had to end eventually. " There's really not point in avoiding it, I suppose. But I think it's easier talking to you about it than anyone else. " Parents and family included, Tinsley supposed.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LEAVEMYDOOROPENJUSTACRACK ((T A K E M E A W A Y F R O M H E R E)) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It was strange to think that once he graduated, he would probably never live with this parents again. While the idea of that sort of independence was thrilling to say the least, there was also a painful feeling deep in his chest just at the thought of it. Jonathan was exceptionally close with his family, some thought it was a little strange how much he enjoyed being around them. But it was all perfectly normal to him, why shouldn't one love being around their family as much as possible? Things were predictable at home, just the way he liked it. If his father wasn't off at work, he could be found in his study either writing in his journal or reading some sort of book about anything under the sun. His mother would either be out in the garden or in the kitchen, trying to make their home perfect. His sister was the only unpredictable one but she added just enough spice to keep things interesting around the house.
While he and Alyson had many, many different interests they somehow still got along rather well. At least until she did something like date a boy; then they started butting heads. She was loud and outgoing, always telling jokes and letting her imagination run free. She was a free-spirit to say the least and she also had a lot of spunk. Jonathan was somewhat of the opposite. He was much more reserved than his sister, more introspective than outgoing, and he certainly wouldn't consider himself spunky. She also didn't really have an interest in excelling at school, she was perfectly fine with just scraping by and that was something with Jonathan couldn't handle.
Jonathan wasn't sure what to make of her comment. "What do you mean?" he asked curiously. It almost sounded like she didn't think she'd be leaving Hogwarts any time soon but that was absurd. She was about to graduate for goodness sakes. Was she worried about NEWTs? He couldn't really blame her if she was, he'd heard nothing but horrendous things about them.
When Tinsley just shrugged her shoulders at his comment he realized that she didn't really want to stick with that topic of conversation. For some reason people got rather touchy when talking about different houses and the corresponding stereotypes. It was something which Jonathan had always found interesting; their stereotypes and how people reacted towards them. He was sure he was more biased than he believed himself to be but he generally tried to ignore the colors on someone's robes, it just didn't seem all that important.
Jonathan slightly grimaced at her words. He knew she was speaking truthfully; he had a horrible habit of babying his younger sister. But wasn't that natural? Wanting to protect someone who was younger than you, someone who you were connected to by blood? But he could also see the logic in Tinsley's argument. If he continued to try and shelter her, she was just going to push him away. That was a classic theme in most of the fiction novels he'd read. After letting out an exasperated sigh he replied, "You're right. Its just hard not to want to protect her, you know? I can't even begin to imagine what its going to be like when I'm a parent." He laughed. If he was this protective over his sister, he knew he'd be at least ten times worse if he had a daughter. "Thanks for the advice, you've always known how to calm me down," he added with a slight chuckle.
It was touching that Tinsley thought of his own problems at a time like this. She was making sure he was okay from something that happened a year ago. It was very sweet but he really shouldn't be getting that sort of attention from her. She was the one who had gone through a much worse tragedy and it was painfully recent. He felt selfish for talking about it and for talking about his troubles with Alyson, they were incredibly insignificant next to her problems.
It was strange how comforting the smallest action could be when coming from someone you really care about. Such as the simple hand on his shoulder. He gave her a smile, "Really, we don't need to be worrying about that though. It was a long time ago. I need to just man up and forget about her," he commented, hoping that he sounded as confident as he intended. Though she did have the unfortunate habit of being able to see through most of his falsehoods. He couldn't help but wonder where Tinsley had heard of James; Jonathan hadn't heard of him before he'd find out what he'd done with his girlfriend. "I don't know where you would have heard of him. Well, actually I think he's a seventh year...don't put all your faith in that though. I could easily be mistaken," he offered, though he wasn't completely confident in his information.
Jonathan wasn't sure why she had the look of shock on her face. There really wasn't any reason for it. "You alright?" After her comment he gave her a small smile, "I know but I also want you to know that I'll always be here for you too, through everything that you're going through now." He was sure that she already knew that but he wanted to verbally affirm it for some reason.
He frowned slightly at her words though hoped she missed it. "You can't keep blaming yourself though. I realize that's probably a difficult thing to do, if something happened to Alyson I know I'd eternally put blame on myself. But sometimes, there's really nothing you can do. I'm sure he'd hate to hear you talk like this," he murmured quietly, hoping that he wasn't saying the wrong things. He was good at being a shoulder to cry on but sometimes he managed to just muck things up even worse, even if he only had the best intentions. He smiled softly, he was glad she could talk to him about it. "Well, I'm here for you. Seriously, if you get upset at three in the morning just owl me and I'll meet you somewhere." And he really meant it too.

The strange thing was that Tinsley could remember a time when she was perfectly content with being a wonderous Wood. Honesty, to the stranger's eye- it's a perfect life. She's heard it time and time again, but everything comes on a silver platter. Those who respect them would suddenly come to worship, once the truth comes out. And all in all- who wouldn't love that? Before she had started Hogwarts, Tinsley had just simply adored being in the center for the attention. She loved having her picture taken with her father at his Quidditch games, loved having everyone ask her questions. She had been a natural, even as a child. Free-spirited, carefree, and raised to be a...well, a Wood. She could remember the giddy feeling, the warmth, of making people laugh and smile at her. It was useless to deny it- Tinsley had just loved the attention. So when did that stop? For a small moment, Tinsley wanted to go back to being that person.
The shock of that was enough to scare her into hiding. For years, ever since her fifth year, she had convinced herself that people didn't love Tinsley for herself. They wanted her to be a star, someone to build up and then tear up. They wanted her to be just another Wood. Ever since then, Tinsley had strayed away from everything that made her a Wood. For the first time ever, Tinsley wondered if that might've been an over-reaction. Like many other siblings, Tinsley had gotten in fights with hers. Of course, no one would really believe her if she told them. It was hard to remember the exact words, but she had gotten the gist. Being the Wood was a natural thing, it's in her blood. It's all she ever knew what to do- to fix the attention on her. But that had just made Tinsley sound like...a complete bitch, in all honesty. Had she really been that self-centered?
The truth was, Tinsley didn't want to move on. Not just yet. Facing the unknown? As much as Tinsley wanted to deny it, she was in a comfort zone, or was. So who knows what stupid things she might do in the future? After all, it always seems as if life had more horrors in store for you. Maybe Tinsley was having an off day, but today it seemed like as if Tinsley was comparing the new her, post fifth-year, and the old her. The urge was getting stronger; she wanted to be that person again. Not this utterly pathetic and lonely verison of herself.
So she did what she's always done. Tinsley didn't want to do it, but it just came to her. Why should she worry one of her closest friends even more? Jonathan had better stuff to worry about. He didn't need this on his mind. Tinsley gave him a casual smile, or tried, and her hand ran through her hair. For some reason, though Tinsley rarely notices it, her body tends to give herself away. " Oh, you know. Just worried about catching up and all. " There. She was such a hypocrite.
For what it seemed to be the hundredth time that day, Tinsley felt a rush of guilt. She hadn't mean to make Jonathan feel guility about his sister. After all, Tinsley could understand that- it was juat a couple years too late. Unlike the caring person sitting in front of her, Tinsley had almost rejected her siblings. She hadn't asked about their lives like any normal sister should've done. Tinsley didn't ask about their personal lives, didn't bother finding out if they were going through anything. And that would always be one of the biggest mistakes of her life. It wasn't that Tinsley hadn't cared- she just hadn't realized that they might've had trouble in their lives. The picture-perfect Woods? It just seemed highly unlikely.
" Alyson is lucky to have a brother like you, you know. She can rebel and date whomever she pleases, but she can't deny that she has a loving brother. " Tinsley said honestly this time. How could Jonathan think otherwise? It was clear how much he cared for his sister. It was so sweet, so loving- it made Tinsley want to cry. Which is just great- because being a sap is exactly what she needs right now. But then again, it's probably due to the mounting stress. At least, that's what she'll tell herself. Giving him a smile, Tinsley was glad that she had somehow managed to help him. What she did? Who knows. " I'm sure you'll be a wonderful father. The whole lullaby and bedtime stories package too. That does not mean, however, I'm encouraging you to have a baby or wife right now. Because whoever she is, she doesn't deserve you. " Tinsley added, laughing slightly. It was true, at any rate. It was just...weird imagining Jonathan dating, much less in a marriage. He always seemed...too good for that.
But the name still puzzled Tinsley. Heavens knows much experience Tinsley has actually had with males. Close to zero, in the matters of a relationship. She could've given any of those hopeful animals a good excuse. It would've been easy too. After all, it's what she's been doing for years. And after a while, they've somewhat managed to get the message. But the truth was- Tinsley was just scared. Getting a heart broken is just so different from getting a broken bone. She couldn't even imagine what Jonathan must've gone through. So how on Earth would she know this person? " Everyone makes mistakes, Jonathan. And if you really loved Roxanne... " Tinsley hesistated. She hasn't spoken to Roxanne in a while, so it wasn't really her place to give Jonathan any advice. Plus, with the rumours she's been hearing too. " I think you should tell her. It might not effect anything, but...It just seems like one half of everybody who gets married- they end up getting a divorce. And who knows how happy that other half is? And besides, have you spoken to this...James? "
It was that name again. Tinsley has a faint memory of the name coming out of her mouth before, but still couldn't place a finger on it. The odd thing was, it felt natural. Along with that fuzzy little feeling she's getting along with it. But before Tinsley could ponder on it anymore, his next words shocked her more than anything. Putting her emotions back in control, Tinsley let out a little laugh and a tiny, barely heard sigh.
" John, you've always been like a brother to me. In fact, it's safe to say that the family would adopt you in an instant. Really, I can't imagine going through something like this without you. " Tinsley could just shudder at the thought. She was floating on high water, unsure of which way to go. And she was drowning. He was a solid rock.
Without planning it, on sheer instinct, she gave him a hug. It's been a while since she's done that, she realized. There had been a time when she thought she had felt something more than friendship. But like always, she didn't bother to sort out those emotions.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LEAVEMYDOOROPENJUSTACRACK ((T A K E M E A W A Y F R O M H E R E)) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jonathan sometimes wondered if he had it easy and he generally believed that he did. While his family had expectations for him, they were nothing out of the ordinary. Above all, even above success, they wanted their children to be happy. While Jonathan had always had a firm grasp on what he desired to do in the future, Alyson normally flopped around when it came to what she wanted. Their parents supported every decision, whether it was to train dragons or be a professional Quidditch player. He knew that there were people who didn't receive that sort of support and love from their parents. It was sometimes difficult for him to accept the fact that not all parents were like this, some even viewed their children as trophies. He generally thought of Slytherins when he thought of those kinds of parents, which perhaps is one of the reasons he felt sympathetic towards the members of that house.
He was also thankful that he didn't have the sibling rivalry which so many families had. He could understand them, it was natural to compete with someone who was related to you, but thankfully he and Alyson were so different from one another that they never really had the opportunity to compete. He had always been into books and schooling, his educational desires overrode everything else. So when it came to school marks, he was obviously the one who was chosen to succeed with flying colors. Alyson on the other hand wasn't into school, of course she did enough work to pass, but it had never been something which she wanted to exceed expectations (no pun intended). But she was the flier, the social butterfly, the person who was capable of always putting a smile on her parents' faces with a story or joke; she was exceptionally charismatic. All of these traits made her exceptionally different from Jonathan. So the two were able to support one another without making a competition out of it.
Perhaps it was all of those reasons which led Jonathan to be so tied with his family. He couldn't handle hearing people talk ill of their families, especially when it seemed like they were being unfair towards them. But he knew not everyone was as fortunate as he was; some put more faith into their friends than their own families. But blood was always thicker than water - you could disown your family but you would always be connected with them, no matter what you did. There were few people outside of his family that he actually trusted.
Jonathan looked at her suspiciously. Her body language contrasted with the words which she had uttered. This time it wasn't the smile which had given her away but the absentminded hand which ran through her long brown hair. Why would she hide something from him? They were beyond that sort of thing, weren't they? "I'm sure you won't have a problem catching up, if that's what you're really worried about anyways. You sure nothing else is going on?" He didn't want to call her out pointblank on her lie, if it was indeed a lie, but he wanted to make sure that she knew she could tell him anything. He felt that way towards her.
It was always difficult for Jonathan to hear that he needed to give his sister more freedom. He knew he was overbearing but he honestly just cared deeply for her. Sometimes it seemed like he forgot he was just her brother and not her father. Their father wasn't even as protective as Jonathan was or at least he didn't show it in the same way as his son. It was always good for the Ravenclaw to hear that he needed to let his sister go, to let her experience her own life without having to worry about him looking over her shoulder every inch of the way. He couldn't imagine growing up in circumstances like that, so why should he put that sort of weight on his sister? It was just difficult to watch someone grow up, it always was.
Jonathan smiled at Tinsley's words. She'd always been very good at comforting him, he just hoped he did the same for her. "Thanks, Tins. I know I just need to step away from the situation, she'll come for me if she needs me. Its just kind of weird to think that she doesn't need me all the time," he said with a laugh, though he wasn't sure if he sounded really weird for saying that. Alyson had always been dependent on him, for everything. Up until this last year anyways. It was hard for him to grasp the fact that as her older brother, he wouldn't always get to be her knight in shining armor; she'd eventually find someone else to fill that position. He laughed at her words. "Believe me, a baby is not in my near future. I really don't plan on having children anytime soon. Or getting married. Or even a girlfriend for that matter. So don't you worry about that," he replied with a smile. She always told him that no girl deserved him but he'd never understood that. He didn't think he was much better than most of the guys at school. However, it still made him feel better to hear her say things like that.
Roxanne had a funny way of re-entering into his mind at the most inconvenient times. And by funny, he meant it wasn't funny at all. Though it was high time that he got over the whole situation, it still lingered in his subconscious, resurfacing every once in a while just to make sure he never forgot what had happened. It was getting to the point of ridiculous these days. It had almost been a year since it'd happened, she'd clearly moved on from it. Well, obviously she had moved on some time ago or she wouldn't have been cheating on him in the first place. Back then, he had been a much more trusting person. If he hadn't been, he would have never given her a second chance. But things had changed since then. He shook his head when she asked, "No, I haven't spoken to this James and I really don't think that would do any good at this point. Too much times has passed for me to bring that up," he replied solemnly. "And what exactly would I tell Roxanne? I don't really have anything nice to say to her," he added honestly.
He smiled at her words. "Well, I'm sure your family knows I'd take them as my own in a heartbeat. Your whole family has always been nothing but kind towards me." He couldn't help but feel sorry for her and everything she was going through. But if he knew Tinsley, she wasn't looking for pity so he tried to not let that show through. It wasn't what she needed right now. Right now, it just seemed like she needed a friend.
Suddenly, Tinsley was hugging him. There was nothing really unusual about this to him. He hugged her back, deciding that maybe this was just one of those moments where she needed to be held.

You'd think that her parents would be the typical, pureblood family types. Tinsley has never actually met anyone who is like this, but she's always felt bad for those whose parents have neglected them. One mistake, and then you're disowned. Of course, people have just assumed that Oliver and Katie Wood were the same way. Because in all reality, they just seem to be the type to push their children into what they want them to be. The funny thing is, they were the exact opposite. Tinsley love her parents, but she was never as close to them as you'd expect her to be. Her siblings fit in better, in her honest opinion. Her sister was the female verison of her father- rough, fierce, and proud. Her brother, her other one, was the male verison of her mother- troublemaker, stubborn, and practically infamous. While Oliver and Katie supported her sibling's choices, they lacked imagination for her. It wasn't as if they had too much expectations for Tinsley. It was quite the opposite- they had none. None whatsoever.
Of course, Tinsley was a little bit miffed that they didn't expect anything out of her. It wasn't as if she wasn't capable of doing anything, as they try to assure her that that wasn't the case. But Tinsley has always had her doubts, but that just might be the stubborn part of her speaking. Although, in their defense- Tinsley hasn't really done anything. Nothing worth boasting about anyways, not that Tinsley has really been one to boast anyways. The only thing that seperated her was her Head Girl status. But to be perfectly honest, Tinsley was getting a bit tired of the whole 'good-girl' act. Don't get her wrong, she doesn't want to be a drug-addict or anything like that. But just to do something exciting, for once. If you'd ask her, not that she'll admit it really, her opinion would be that she got the position by accident, or a nasty combitation of over-confidence from her Professors. She wasn't quite sure which was worse.
But the way that Jonathan spoke of Alyson made Tinsley guility. She wasn't exactly the world's best sister- seeing recent events and all. But even before that, Tinsley has somewhat neglected her. Tinsley could never bring herself to worry about her siblings the way Jonathan does. For the most part, Tinsley was always too far in with her own little world. All in all, she could've done a better job. At times, it felt as if they were looking out for her more than she was for them. It wasn't something that Tinsley was likely to admit, much less be proud of.
A wiry smile appeared on her face. Time goes by so fast, Tinsley had almost forgotten about how close they were. If anyone could tell the difference between her actions, it would be Jonathan. Of course, she probably should've been smarter than to try and manipulate him in the first place. But it was worth a try, though the chances were always slim of him not catching on. Ravenclaws, you can't get anything past them, Tinsley mused fondly.
" Oh, it's nothing. I just have too much free time on my hands. " Tinsley reflected, with an edge of guilt. She really should be doing something more productive, but that seems to be out of the question now. Besides, it probably won't be as fun.
But Tinsley was determined to make Jonathan see the bright side of Alyson dating. Now, that was a challenge. It was perfectly natural for one to be protective of their siblings, in the terms of a relationship. Not that Tinsley would actually know. For the last seven years, she's been avoiding any signs of an actual relationship. Unfortunately, clearly she hasn't done that good of a job- what was it going to take for the world to get a message? And she hadn't bothered to ask about her sibling's love lives. Assuming that they do have one, that is.
" Well, perhaps it'll end up being someone you'll like. Someone who'll look out for her and all. " Tinsley piped her, her voice filled with hope. But even she had to admit the chances were slim.
Tinsley could sort of understand Jonathan's perspective. Luckily for her, falling in love has never been in problem. Simply because- she's never actually fallen in love. Despite the good side to that, Tinsley wouldn't help but be a bit...disappointed. It wasn't as if she wanted to get her heart broken, but she's always been a secret romantic. Old love songs, fairytale stories, etc. If you really think about it, it's not that surprising given her personality and her 'happy-go-lucky' attitude to...pretty much everything.
No doubt that Jonathan had been hopeful toward his relationship with Roxanne, once upon a time. It was the thing that really crushed Tinsley. Not only did she not enjoy seeing her friends break apart, but the fact that nothing seem to stay together forever. But she wasn't giving up just yet. Merely...putting it off.
" Maybe not. But you might be able to fix things, to go back to being friends at the very most. " Tinsley pointed out. A part of her truly missed the golden days.
The other part of was feeling...weak. If she truly wanted to, she supposed that she could get over this tragedy at a quicker rate. But lately, she hadn't been able to focus on getting better. Tinsley was still dwelling, most unfortunately. Pulling herself away from the hug, feeling somewhat better, Tinsley laughed with that tinkling child-like laugh of hers.
" You really shouldn't spoil me, Johnny. Or Alyson for that matter, " Tinsley chided, but not really meaning it. It was sweet, really.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LEAVEMYDOOROPENJUSTACRACK ((T A K E M E A W A Y F R O M H E R E)) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - His parents, as far as he was concerned, were perfect. Jonathan was definitely family-oriented, anyone who knew him at all knew that much. Unlike most teenagers, he shared everything with his parents. He knew that Tinsley loved her parents and all but she wasn’t really all that close to them. Her situation was, well, interesting to say the least. He had never been fully able to understand it but he knew that the family name burdened her to some extent. He was thankful that he didn’t have parents with some sort of legacy. This was not to say that his parents did nothing of significance but it seemed as though the people who were actually involved during the previous war were the ones whose legacy still lived on at Hogwarts. He was actually glad they hadn’t been involved; he didn’t really think violence was ever appropriate. Thankfully, his parents had felt the same way.
Parenting. What a scary thought. Jonathan by no means had to worry about becoming a parent anytime soon, he was hardly promiscuous. But the idea of being completely responsible for someone was absolutely horrifying. He hoped that he wouldn’t utterly fail at the task whenever he had a child. If anything he hoped he’d be just like his own father. But these worries could wait. It wasn’t like he was going to father a child anytime soon. Alyson was enough for him at the moment. It always astonished him whenever he heard about teenage girls having children. Were they just that careless about the whole ordeal? He couldn’t imagine anyone actually wanting a children at that age. It was just reckless in his opinion. Adding that sort of responsibility on top of school and just the hardships of being a teenager, well it was an absurd concept to him. One time he had almost asked a pregnant girl who appeared to be around his age if she completely regretted her stupidity. However, given that he was shy and that would have been an extremely rude question, he had quickly ignored the temptation.
Too much free time was never good, especially when someone had as much on their mind as Tinsley was sure to have. What was that cliche? Something about idle hands being the devil's playthings, or maybe playground, something along those lines. It was true too. Nothing good ever came out of having ample amounts of free time. Boredom could easily lead to trouble. He nodded sympathetically, "I can understand that. At least your boredom led you to the library, its full of interesting stuff to occupy your mind." He flashed her a small smile as he played up his house stereotype by talking about the library in a sort of reverent tone.
He rolled his eyes at her comment. "Alright, now you know those chances are pretty slim. The guy could be a freaking saint and I'd still find something to hate about him," he replied honestly. He knew that wasn't the best way to go about things but it was only natural. Tinsley could probably understand his feelings when it came to that. She had always said that she never thought any girl was good enough for him. Jonathan sometimes got embarrassed by how protective he was of Alyson. He knew he was being unreasonable but he'd always thought that his level of protectiveness was normal, something which was exchanged between most siblings. But after observing sibling relationships at Hogwarts, he had quickly realized that he and his sister had a different relationship than most. For some reason it was a strange concept to be best friends with your sibling. And even though she was two years younger than him, she was still one of his best friends.
Jonathan, back before Roxanne, might have been slightly optimistic about his sister finding someone who well...deserved her. But that just seemed unlikely now that he'd been jaded. Of course, part of him was still a closet romantic but that part of his personality was much more subdued than it had been during his younger years. There was a small portion of him that wanted to get back into the whole dating thing but at the same time it was frightening. He didn't think he was ready to go put his heart back out on the chopping block, not yet anyways. Besides, who in the world would he go for? There weren't really many romantic prospects.
He'd always wondered why Tinsley had never really dated anyone. He was sure at some point she'd had a crush or two but she'd never actually dated someone. He had known a couple of guys who had thought about pursuing her but she had been to blind to see that happening or was just uninterested. It would be weird to see her actually dating someone, he just couldn't picture it. But that was probably because, like she had said to him, he didn't really think anybody deserved her.
Jonathan could understand why Tinsley was pushing for he and Roxanne to move past what had happened. She was unfortunately stuck in the middle. But she'd done a good job of playing the neutral role. Jonathan didn't think he would have been able to stay so unbiased if he'd been in her position. "Well, to be honest, I don't really see that happening anytime soon," he began before shrugging his shoulders in what he hoped came off as a casual fashion, "But you never know. Maybe one day." She would probably be able to see that he didn't actually believe what he was saying but he felt as though that was something he needed to say in order to comfort her, even if he didn't really believe it was realistic.
He laughed at her comment, "Ah, I can't help myself."

] I SWEAR I NEVER MEANT TO HURT YOU(• INEVERMEANTTOLOVEYOU•)
The funny thing was, it felt like all the promotional acts went to her. Tinsley had long given up hope that her sister would take her place, being the Wood's poster child. While Oliver and Katie were trying to protect their family from any anti-Puddlemere fans, it gets a bit dull. Most people, so their parents felt, wouldn't dare to attack the all London family. So, in their opinion, looking like a wonderful and caring family, which they are- really, would be the best for them all. To show a sense of support, that they believe in a healthy family. In a way, there was that sense of urge to be perfect. It felt, to Tinsley, that the majority of her family never really had to try to be what they are. Her sister, the loving goofball that is she, never had to try hard at Quidditch or any other outdoor events- it appears naturally to her. Her brother, though only in his fifth year, is already becoming a Hogwart's legend. You wouldn't believe the number of third years that had swooned at his feet. Something that Tinsley would rather not hear about, in all honesty.
So naturally, Tinsley felt the need to prove herself. She's not competitive person, but merely doing what she felt was expected. But the problem with being perfect is that it's impossible. So why not give off the lure of perfection? Something that had deemed itself to be quite impossible also. Her options were running out, but she supposed that she should just keep on trying. At the very least, she could stop herself from doing anything too stupid. But it just felt wrong.
However, Tinsley felt that she had given her fellow students a wrong impression. Did they, including the professors, expect her to not mess up at anything? Did they really believe the whole 'I-stand-for-everything-pure' act? Because, truly, that what it is. Just an act. Of course, Tinsley didn't have the urge to get drunk every night and whatnot- but still. While Jonathan can say that he has no desire to be a father, there is very few doubts that he wouldn't make a good one. Tinsley, however, is a completely different story. At first, she might seem like the idle mother, something that she shudders at. But then again, she has been void of her sibling's life and can barely keep an owl. Besides, Tinsley never really felt the need to settle down.
In a way, Tinsley envied others. They knew who they are, what they're doing, and what they're capable of. Tinsley, on the other hand, knew none of those things. Those people who can walk with confidence, because they had a dream that others can take away. Tinsley was never one of those people. She didn't expect people to bow down to her, mostly because she knew that she really hasn't done anything. For years, Tinsley got through because she just didn't care. She didn't care about the future, but now as it loomed over her, making her to decide, it seemed much more important.
Tinsley laughed at this comment, something any Ravenclaw would say in all honesty. But she doesn't judge by houses, considering that she was never much of a Gryffindor. " Oh, yes. I never knew how exciting it is to learn how to conjour up a 'make-your-owl-bigger' brew. Or you know, I've always loved to spend quality time with the librarian " Tinsley teased, referring to the lurking lady several bookshelves away. Her eyes still twinkling with laughter, she flicked a crumbled piece of paper at Jonathan. A failed attempt at an essay, no doubt.
Tinsley wasn't a complete optimist, but she always found herself yearning to look at the bright side of things. Tinsley knew what if felt like, always waiting for that moment for when your siblings gets hurt. The reaction to rush to their side, making sure that they get back on their feet. Although, that applied to her more than any of her siblings. Ironic, isn't it? But Tinsley had always admired the way that Jonathan protected Alyson. Not every brother would do that for his naive sister. So it really should be a bliss when the same thing applied to her, considering the fact that she's not even related to him. But it was flattering and caring, nonetheless.
She smiled at this comment, as he showed the side that would kill, an exaggeration perhaps, to protect his sister. " Or he could end up to your best friend, and Alyson would end up to be in a healthy relationship. I'm sure there are some males here who aren't completely animals. " Tinsley quipped, with a little knowing smile lacing her lips.
Tinsley could understand his concern. Love was such a tricky thing, it's as if it's setting you up for a fall. Not to mention, Jonathan's love life has been pretty cursed lately. But a broken heart will heal eventually, right? One of the many reasons why Tinsley refuses to 'fall in love.' For one thing, it could be heaven one moment and then hell the next. Could two people really love each other for all their life? Her parents rarely ever have a fight, but could that just be out of habit? Most people start out loving each other, and then something just snaps. They cheat, they lie, and they leave each other in the dust.
Just the thought of having a broken heart made her ache, Tinsley noticed. Although, out of the two, Tinsley was probably the one who is better off. She couldn't even imagine what Jonathan had gone through. As far as Tinsley was concerned, it seemed like as if he really loved her. Maybe she was just being selfish, but she felt as if the best way to move on for Jonathan and Roxanne would be just to forget about the past. At least, that's what Tinsley does. To lock the terrible events in a corner of her heart, unable to free themselves.
His next comment made her curious. Obviously, he was lying. The sad thing, with the good people of the world, they are completely out of touch, unable to do something not-so-good such as lying. But the attempt that counts, isn't it? But why should he try to make her feel good? She wasn't the one who had been cheated on, to be frank. " It'll work out somehow. You'll find a person to be with, despite my opinions about her. " Tinsley said, in a completely confident voice. At least, that's what she's hoping for.
