I TRY TO HIDE FROM MYSELF(• BUTYOUCAN'TDISAPPEARFOREVER•)
Normally, Tinsley loves the setting of the Three Broomsticks. She's always found it to be quite calming, despite the bustling atmosphere. In spite of the noise and the hustle, you can always manage to get lost in it. Despite who are you, where you came from- you get to disappear for a little while. But in that single moment, it can seem like a lifetime. But Tinsley wasn't the brooding type, the one who is miserable all the time. Until recently, Tinsley has always been the one who can never stop. You'd be hard put to find her, wasting her time on the meaning of life and whatnot.
But even now, after everything that's just happened, Tinsley found herself yearning to do something...exciting. Something that no one would expect her to do, the poster child that she is. Because she's always done everything that she knows she's supposed to do. But, no doubt, it was getting a bit dull- as an understatement. But Tinsley knew herself, that there's always a chance of something bad if she actually does decide to do the impossible.
For the most part, Tinsley isn't an idiot. She can walk away from challenges, if she really wanted to. But if you knew how to really bait her- then that's where the story will change. Of course, this is speaking from experience. If you compare her to the other students, Tinsley would be, without doubt, one of the most naive and somwhat innocent females in the Hogwart's population. Well, perhaps not naive- but at the moment, she can't find another word to describe herself.
It isn't as if Tinsley hasn't done stupid and utterly horrifying things in her past. Everyone has, right? From stealing her best friend's boyfriend, on accident, to getting drunk, on purpose, to avoid her troubles- Tinsley really can't consider herself a Saint. But of course, no one cares about that. As long as she keeps on trying to be the perfect daughter, sister, friend, student- everything will be fine. At least, that's what she'll be telling herself.
Her long dark hair cascaded down her back as she stirred the drink mindlessly. Tinsley isn't a heavy drinker or an addict, but just a little bit of firewhiskey couldn't hurt could it? Tinsley knew her limit, and she wasn't exactly planning to go over it. Luckily, the regular bartender was off tonight- otherwise, he never could've served her. Well, maybe he would. But she wasn't interesting in testing out that theory.
She supposed that she should probably go back to Hogwarts now, but Tinsley can't seem to find it in herself to leave. Tinsley loved the place, where everybody has a story to share. Stories that are much more interesting than what her life seemed to be. It isn't as if she was miserable- just bored.
After a few more minutes of carrying on a pointless conversation with the bartender, Tinsley lifted her glass and took a sip. From her little bout a few weeks back, she was getting used to the burning sensation of the drink. But of course, it wasn't particularly strong. After all, this is Tinsley we're talking about here. Drinking is not approiate for her. But at the same time, Tinsley couldn't bring herself to care.

`` Mr. Q. B. Grey_______________Whilst the day was winding down, it was still unusual to see the streets as quiet as they were for a day with as unobjectionable conditions as were around – there was no biting cold, no pouring rain, no blustery wind... The Slytherin supposed that with exams coming up people may have already started revision (though for the life of him he couldn’t imagine why people would start so early – revision best left for at most the night before), but he couldn’t justify just how empty the place seemed with just that simple reasoning. Shoving his hands deep into the pockets of his dark jeans, he continued down the high street, eyes running unseeing over the windows, wondering what it was he was missing out on that all of his usual cohort had disappeared to: no doubt having a much better time than he was on his own.
He kicked huffily at a loose stone, the mere thought that he had been forgotten about putting him in a sour mood, deciding in that moment that if there were still students around – who weren’t them – that they would be holed up in the Three Broomsticks, and he would at least then have some company (even if it was in the form of a group of giggly younger students simply ogling him or asking too many questions). And at least he would have a drink in hand, and would give at least as good as he got straight back to them – feeling vindictive and the need to take out some frustration on someone, deserved or not (and most likely not).
Passing the window, he glanced inside to the warm glow that made even the lingering warmth of the spring air outside feel distinctly chilled, his eyes not picking up on anyone distinctive within with the short look. Catching the door handle as it swung outwards, allowing the pair of older witches passage out – picking up snippets of their highly inappropriate and tipsy conversation, and quickly shaking his head before any mental images managed to form – before entering into the pub, the glow washing over him as the waves of alcohol on the air saturated his senses. His cursory glance through the window had proved true as his eyes once again roved across the assemblage: no top-end Slytherins, no faces that he knew, no groups of younger pupils even to boost his ego... With a frown furrowing his brow, and a renewed heaviness in his step, he turned towards the bar and positioned himself next to a well-dressed wizard with a couple of empty glasses in front of him.
Quinn had his looks on side as the older wizard caught the bar tender’s attention ordered a refill, the Slytherin catching up one of the empty glasses and motioning likewise with it – the older wizard looking a little baffled at the young man’s sudden appearance but shrugging it off, muttering to himself that this drink would definitely be the last one of the evening. The barman broke off from his conversation and nodding, turned to fill two more pints of mead without second thought for the fact that he hadn’t served the younger before – the younger man had a glass in his hand so had clearly been cleared to drink, it only made sense not to question him again. Quinn watched with a light smirk on his face, leaning on the bar now and affording himself view of the young woman who had been occupying the barman’s attentions; smirk spreading as he paid and took the drink, moving quickly along the bar to position himself next to her.
“Oh tut tut, we all know what happens when you’ve been drinking...” he chided mockingly, maintaining a smirk upon his features, leaning an elbow on the bar and taking a sip of his own drink. I TRY TO HIDE FROM MYSELF(• BUTYOUCAN'TDISAPPEARFOREVER•)
Tinsley wasn't an idiot, she knew that she could be a hard person to put up with. At times, she could be as a carefree as a feather, and the next second- quite like this. Her brain worked in a way that was like no other, seeing the world in different colors- not exactly literally. But her heart was another thing completely. She can trust others, but she refused to let them get too close. On the outside and the quite sane part of her, Tinsley knew exactly what she had to do. What to say, how she should act. But the somewhat less sane part of her wanted to do something else, something that was sure to get her into trouble. Luckily, Tinsley had enough sense in her, for the most part, to ignore those little desires.
As spring comes with a slight shock, for her at least, Tinsley reckons that she should probably be doing something more productive. Rather than, oh say, lounging out and about at the Three Broomsticks, drinking the mildest drink that you can possibly imagine. It was so Tinsley, though. Besides, she didn't really have a desire to study anymore. The thought of opening those heavy books and read her notes from her past years just made her ache. There was only so much time one can spend, pondering over the uses of dragon blood, the puzzles of sphinxes, and the uses of toadstools.
In the background, some breathy song that no one wanted to hear was playing. The voice was quite pitchy, Tinsley noted, in her semi-haze. Her brain was celar enough to process straight thoughts, but her heart just wasn't in it. She watched the progession of witches and wizards throughout the door. Sometimes, they would sing songs, clearly drunk, and head out for the night. Sometimes they would look back behind them, with a sour look on their face. Tinsley wondered which one she would be, if she was to get really drunk. But from her one or two previous experiences, she didn't really have a desire to know.
Tinsley didn't even notice when the bartender disappeared, filling other cups. Truth to be told, Tinsley wasn't even sure what the hell she was drinking. Unfortunately for her, she couldn't exact pass for a legal witch. On the other hand, she was barely below age. And apparently, the bartender took pity on her. Thus, she looked up with an expression of shock and surprise when she realized that there was someone next to her.
For a moment or so, Tinsley didn't recongize him. He didn't look anything like the people she normally associates herself with. But then the cocky smirk and the attitude came to her. She nearly choked on her drink, clearly feeling some sort of reaction. But she can't really say it was good.
For the most part, Tinsley only avoided Slytherins because she was told to. Or heavily advised. Her parents weren't exactly what you'd call in the 'neutral' zone between the Gryffindor and Slytherin rivalry. But of course, she hadn't known that he was a Slytherin back then. In fact, she wasn't exactly sure what she had known about him back then. Clearly, the mounting stress in the castle [ the aftershock of the Virus, no doubt ] and the exams was taking it's toll on her. A flicker of annoyance crossed her face, something that rarely ever happens. Tinsley prides herself, secretly of course, in knowing that she could keep a cool head if the event should ever call for one.
" Quinn, " Tinsley responded, carefully keeping all emotions out of her voice. She had turned her face away to the opposite of the man in front her, avoiding his eyes at all costs. Tinsley wasn't sure that she could still hold her dignity and look him straight in his cocky eyes.
She flashed him an exasperated look as he mentioned her choice of drink. " You can't honestly tell me that that's pumpkin juice in your mug. " Tinsley paused for a moment before continuing, deciding to make her intentions clear. " Besides, that was a long time ago. " It was true, at some point. Her glass was filled with what it seemed to be champange, though she wasn't really celebrating anything, rather than the heavy firewhiskey that the bar was famous for.
It's a hell of a start.

`` Mr. Q. B. Grey_______________“Well, I see my name’s not all you remember about me,” he retorted to her blank expression, gleaning just as much information from her prim and proper decorum than he would have had she snapped at him and thrown her drink in his face. Regarding her side-on, taking little notice of the fact that she didn’t seem to be in the mood for conversation (or perhaps taking everything in the world from this and merely continuing to engage with her due to this fact), he remained static in his position besides her, head tilted slightly as to keep himself in her eye line with the smirk still clearly evident on his features. Quinn could feel the statement, tangible on the air, hanging between them – something like memories of the event to which he was so blatantly referring to (after all, what else would such an unlikely pair have in common?) flashing through his subconscious mind.
As easily bored as he was, this encounter in the pub was just a little bit of sport – Tinsley just happening to be in the wrong place at the wrong time (at least from her perspective), an existing history always made for a better joke, giving him something pre-existing to build his mockery upon. And Quinn had no qualms about exploiting past experiences, feeling little connected to them in any meaningful way; yes whatever it was that he had with a person would remain in his memory, but only for bragging rights and occasions as this that he found himself a part of. So the Gryffindor was just another on the ever increasing list, another pawn to be played. She was attractive enough, Quinn couldn’t cast any dispersions on that, but from what he remembered (and knew from common knowledge) was the overall glean of perfection that shone from her – little miss could-do-no-wrong and head girl to boot – and that was something that he could not ignore. Conversely, the Slytherin supposed, he could not quite see himself fitting in with this nice story-book life that Tinsley seemed to crave, knowing – but never admitting – that he probably occupied an approximately parallel role within the realms of her history.
As she referred to his drink, he scoffed under his breath, swirling the contents around and taking another defiant swig. “Never claimed it was... But unlike some, I know the limit that I can push myself to before I do something...” the pause that followed heavily pregnant with anticipation, motioning with his hand in circles as if searching for the correct word that lay just beyond his grasp. “...stupid.” He raised an eyebrow quizzically at her, inclining his head a little in acknowledgement of her before drinking again, ironically and as if in thanks. “And come on,” he appealed, arms spread as if to confer to her the innocent that lay behind his words (although the truth lay far from that). “It wasn’t that long ago. There’ve only been, what...” he mimed counting in his head, though for all that he was showing he could actually have been reaming off his since conquests, lips and fingers also engaged in counting and clearly for the benefit of Tinsley, “...a few.” he concluded with grace and an almost apologetic look, though the mockery and belittling of the young woman shone through.
His smirk returned, “Besides,” he mimicked her use of the word, “you can’t tell me that you didn’t enjoy it.” he raised his eyebrows again, his look lingering upon her for a moment before drawing his look away and shifting position to face the bar with his eyes idling near the bottles that lined the back wall, and expression of acceptance on his features. I TRY TO HIDE FROM MYSELF(• BUTYOUCAN'TDISAPPEARFOREVER•)
Usually, it took a lot to rattle Tinsley's nerves. Most of the time, she refused to be drawn in by emotions. Anger, jealousy, love, etc- a couple of the many that she often ignores and shuts out. She just finds it easier that way, without any weaknesses. Without emotions, she was left in blank state of peace and quiet. For five years, she was left in that state. The pressure still remained, of course- but it was always less forceful. Being carefree and free-spirited came naturally after that. Nothing to distract her. Unfortunately, it seemed that he was one of those unruly people who had the natural ability to shake her. A part of her wanted to hide her face at the sight of him and make everything go away. But the other part of her wanted to defend herself, setting down the terms.
Oh, oh why did she ever listen to a Slytherin? Tinsley wasn't a hater by natural, far from it. Her family, however, had no tolerance of Slytherins whatsoever. Tinsley never bothered to question it. But more importantly- what did he wanted from her? Tinsley had made it beyond clear that whatever foolish thing she did it back then- she had no intentions of doing it again. But apparently, that hadn't gotten to him. Yet.
" Unfortunately, no. Believe me, I've tried to forget. " Along with the mountain of shame and regret that came along with him. She wanted to wipe that look of amusement off his face this instant, making it clear that this will be the last conversation they'll ever have. Overall, Tinsley just wanted to forget the whole ordeal. But most obviously, that wasn't going to happen. Ever since then, Tinsley would avoid this particular Slytherin more than the others. She would lie, with little shame at this part, to others about her whereabouts that night. Naturally, the incident wore off. Others didn't suspect her of anything. After all, she was Tinsley. She could just barf at the prospect, the way other people see her.
Tinsley wanted to will herself not to do anything idiotic tonight, such as...throwing something at him. The urge was strong, too. But it was getting worse after his comments. The sick part was...he did have a point. Being the careless person that she had been, she never thought of what would happen next. In truth, she never did. Tinsley had been one to live in the moment, to not worry about what's coming next. Her greatest flaw, in her eyes. But certaintly not her only.
As her lips parted slightly in shock that he would bring that up in public, though she really shouldn't be too surprised, Tinsley was too stunned to pull herself together for a couple of seconds. Yes, what she did had been stupid and careless. But more importantly, it will remain away from public knowledge. Not only was it humiliating, but it would change the way people look at her. Though she wasn't exactly thrilled by the way people look at her now, she wouldn't trade it for what it might be. He was Quinn. Notorious womanizer [ menzier ]. She would be just another capture for him. The thought made her sick. Plus, she didn't want to deal with everybody's reaction; her family, Roxanne, Jonathan, Tally, etc.
" Well, I was a different person. I won't be making the same mistakes again. " Tinsley replied with as much scorn as she could muster. Which, for her, wasn't very much. She didn't want to let know him how much the prospect of this getting out scares her. It was a weakness, and knowing Quinn- he'd use it against her somehow.
But his next comment shook her more than anything else. Despite her will to remain uneffected, Tinsley could her already slightly parted lips parting completely. She spun herself around, looking at him shock- but only to wish that she didn't have. The smugness in his eye were almost too much to bare. Trying to gather her jumbled thoughts, she stared at the wooden counter for a couple of moments.
" In case you've forgotten, I was slightly...off guard. And luckily, I don't remember a thing. " Tinsley said, her voice getting back to her. Unfortunately, it wasn't as cold and emotionless as she had been planning for it to be.

`` Mr. Q. B. Grey_______________“Aw...” he pouted in exaggerated fashion, rounding on her again with a mischievous glint catching his wide, puppy-dog eyes; his pointed look emphasised by an inclination of his posture towards her, closing the gap that she seemed to have maintained by a half before he backed off and relaxed back to previous demeanour. “Pity...” he added in quiet tones, seemingly half to himself, with a shrug and commiseratory drink. “Though there’s not enough alcohol in the world to make you forget all of it I’m sure...” he smirked again, the smile tugged wider to reveal straight white teeth and his eyes once again roving her face for reaction – though he was quite sure that she would be playing her cards closer and closer to her chest as their conversation time dragged onwards.
Quinn had to admit, she was playing it very phlegmatically – almost irksomely so – and whilst there did exist blips in her resolve, altogether he would have commended her if not for the greater satisfaction that he was gaining from opposing the Gryffindor than he would have by making friendly conversation. He wondered what her tipping point would be; that one little niggling detail that would rouse her to react in a more vibrant manner. How much had she really changed from the person that she was those mere months ago, he couldn’t imagine a reversal of character so severe as to deny herself what she had previously taken so much solace from – granted, her emotions had been a train-wreck but her very stoic responses, laced with tiny outcries of uncontrol, to his goading told the Slytherin that much of that previous confusion in her head still remained very much there.
“Liar.” he retorted in measured yet ominous tones, again leaning in towards her – the smile on his face lacking any friendly connotations and harbouring a grim satisfaction over the four letter word. He shook his head with a short and disbelieving laugh, blonde fringe falling across his face, knowing that regardless of the fact that not three sentences ago she had said she’d found it impossible to forget that night that they had spent some quality time together, that she would ardently deny all charges and profess innocence to whoever would listen. And he supposed that they would be forgiven for falling for the act – most everyone seemed to, after all, this was Tinsley Wood. And Tinsley Wood was perfect. Tinsley Wood was head girl and a Gryffindor! How could anyone possibly question her claims when they were being pitted against those of the Slytherin? A younger student and one the absolute antithesis of Ms Wood – a trouble maker, a rule flaunter, a debaucher and general stereotype of his House through and through! To even question seemed ludicrous...
Yet he began to wonder if he could tempt her again. The chances were, by his own admissions, slim to none, but the hunt remained too much of a challenge to allow him to simply let the opportunity pass him by, and the rewards too great to allow to slip through his fingers (heightened emotions leading to heightened passions). And besides, he reasoned with himself, nothing ventured nothing gained – it wasn’t like he would walk out of that pub with less than he had entered with, a dismissal from Tinsley might even provide the next gateway into conversation and therefore the next opportunity. I TRY TO HIDE FROM MYSELF(• BUTYOUCAN'TDISAPPEARFOREVER•)
The problem with trying to be the goody-two-shoes is that you tend to forget how to lie properly. Damn. As the conversation dragged on, Tinsley was becoming more uncomfortable by the second and it was showing clearly now. She had been stupid that night! What had she been thinking? Oh, right. She hadn't. That's what she gets for being an idiot.
To her complete and utter horror, memories came back. Damn Quinn. Just damn him to hell. Trying not to shudder, Tinsley grabbed her glass and drained it in sip. Oh, God. So much better. As the rush went through her, Tinsley blinked a couple of times. That could've gone better. Ignoring Quinn's eyes, she weakly waved to the bartender for more. She was going to need a lot more than that to get through the conversation.
She blinked in shock as he moved closer to her. The bells in her mind went off immediately, leaving her no time to think whatsoever. She edged away eversoslightly...only to discover that her way was blocked by the wall. Great move, Tinsley. Aren't you a genius? Her lips parted in annoyance slightly, the drink going into effect now. Ah- bliss. Not that it lasted long with his next words. At this point, the bartender would need more than one bottle.
A flash of uncertainty passed by her face. Tinsley had a horrible pokerface, that much was obvious. There are some people who can read her much better than others. But why did it have to be him? To avoid answering, for now, Tinsley took another sip. Oh, well. At this point, maybe she'll get drunk enough that she'll hit him. A drunk girl cannot be responsible for her actions toward a pig like Quinn.
Despite the amount that she had just drunk, Tinsley felt her mouth go dry when he leaned toward her. She pushed back away, as far as she can with the stupid wall anyways. Shit. He did notice. Looking away to something less...distracting, she tried to think of some excuse to go without looking like a coward.
There was none.
Glancing back at him, Tinsley no longer felt in control. Yes, drinking had been a bad idea. Her brain was fuzzy and slow, but not completely unuseable. What was she worried about again? Oh, yes. People finding out. She didn't want anyone to know about her little lapse of judgement. God, she can only imagine it. Tinsley Katherine Wood, the Tinsley Katherine Wood, being...ugh. It was digusting to think about. Another surge of anger went through her, fueled by the drink.
Why should she let him think that he can treat her like this?
Yup. It was definitely the drink speaking. Without really planning for it, Tinsley tried to push him away, her brain buzzing away. Although, for all the good it did, she might as well been pushing against a brick wall. She could already hear him laugh.
When it clearly didn't work, Tinsley slumped back, suddenly exhausted. Shit. The strange thing was, she felt kind of good. Attempting to fight back, even if it was a complete fail. Whatever. It's the effort that counts, right? Even with a pig like Quinn. Giving up on physical removement, Tinsley settled back.
" What do you want, Quinn? Just tell me and get it over with. " What he wanted from her, the polar opposite of him- Tinsley had no idea.

`` Mr. Q. B. Grey_______________Quinn kept his eyes on her, never allowing his gaze to stray further than the Gryffindor for more than a second or two – gauging the situation around and any ill reactions that might have been being incited within the gathered crowd. Yet they seemed impartial to the goings-on between the two students, what were the troubles of a couple of teenagers to the adults wizards who resided in the town, squabbles frequently broke out in their little village tavern between rival houses (though never anything too very serious) or between friends or lovers; it was just what happened where the heightened hormone levels of youth were involved. And the pub remained so quiet of other students – who were the ones who would take interest in such an odd couple to be holding a conversation – that very little attention was being cast their way. On one hand, Quinn weighed this as a good thing; he could continue his goading and probing as he pleased, no one to tell him to back off and leave the poor Miss alone; yet on the other, he lived and breathed for drama and saw little use in situations with no possibility for such.
But as his luck would have it, a new group of students did enter the bar – of no house of consequence (Hufflepuffs remaining fairly neutral in the rivalry of their fellow students where it was perceived that house was the dominant factor in any given argument), but old enough to buy into gossip-mongering and to want a bit of renown for themselves, the ones to be first in any knowledge of social politics often gained popularity and esteem quickly around Hogwarts. His expression remained as it had though, the flicker of recognition of a spark to ignite the powder keg that this was too fleeting for even his own brain to register, and his eyes returned to examination of Tinsley’s crumbling facade.
“Easy there, tiger...” he chided lightly with a note of seeming concern, a laugh on his voice as if not even a drop of bad-blood existed between the odd pairing, continuing in tones just as light, “You should be keeping a clear head, who knows who might try to take advantage of you being less than on guard...” he glanced around, concern lingering about his features in mocking fashion, as if his statement referred to anyone but himself. For the most part his words were true – Hogsmeade had become a little more wild since the Second Wizarding War’s end, but mostly in response to the fact that the students had too – but of course, their meaning remained self-centric and egotistical as always (though how much Tinsley would pick up on his subtle sarcasm in her state was debatable). As the bartender delivered her replacement drink, Quinn signalled that he was paying and offered the coins quickly across before any complaints could be launched; flashing the bartender a misleading smile to lull him into the sense that everything was fine, or was going to be, between the pair. The bartender nodded knowingly and threw him a wink before returning to tend to the other customers.
He shifted position, crossing both arms on the bar with mug still in hand and Tinsley to his side – though his head turned just enough to keep her in his peripheral vision. His exhaled breath was somewhere verging on a sigh as he quaffed another drink, his retorts seeming to have run dry and his actions almost suggesting surrender (but merely a ploy to lower the guard of the Seventh year further). “Well, I had fun.” he stated simply in lower, more private tones than previously; his gaze sliding away from her to his raised mug as he drank again then turned his head fully away from her for the first time in the encounter. He noted a couple of the Hufflepuff girls approaching the bar, but maintained blank expression as they looked his way, casually returning his look to the Gryffindor.
The shadow of a smirk reappeared on his face as Tinsley made her attempts to make him leave – merely watching with eyebrow raised in slight amusement as she quickly gave up and enquired after his intentions. “Is it not enough to simply want some company after a rough day?” his question seemed genuine and everything about his tone and expression seemed perfectly innocent, though lingering beneath the sheen of purity hid the recall of similar words spoken by the other prior to their night spent together. Before waiting for a response he turned away from her again quickly, engaging the two Hufflepuffs who were now beside him at the bar ordering, “Heeeeeyyyy.” he greeted them in overly friendly tones, an obvious and challenging glance thrown back to the Gryffindor, “Y’know Tinsley here..? She did something bad...” he widened his eyes dramatically, pausing with no intention of relinquishing his hold over her yet. STATUS;; done. WORDS;; eight-one-eight. I TRY TO HIDE FROM MYSELF(• BUTYOUCAN'TDISAPPEARFOREVER•)
He's trying to kill her. Tinsley was sure of it. And unfortunately, it felt like it was working. Normally, Tinsley has a pretty fair tempter. She's relatively calm for a Gryffindor. Always the peacekeeper. You'd have to try fairly hard to get her worked up about something. It killed her knowing that all he had to do, in order to drive her crazy, was to strike up a conversation with him. But she wouldn't do anything stupid with him tonight. Or ever. Yes, not ever sounds good. However, hitting him still sounded like a good idea. Being Tinsley wasn't a violent person- the thought alone is just laughable. If only she hadn't been so naive and idiotic that night. If she hadn't, the whole mess would've been gone. She would've been back to doing what Tinsley does best when it comes to these people- avoiding them. Merlin, she's a failure for a Gryffindor.
She resisted the urge to take another sip. The drink wouldn't help at any rate. Besides, she needed to think of a way to get out of this without losing control. Tinsley was brought to reality when she heard the door open, revealing a pack of giggling hufflepuffs. Oh shoot. This was very bad. As she glanced around, she saw a couple of witches glancing at them. They could vaguely remembering them going to Hogwarts. Oh, dear. This can't be good. She could see it now 'TINSLEY WOOD- GOOD GIRL GONE BAD?' As if. She plans on keeping what's left of her sanity and virtue.
Tinsley winced at the petname. Tiger? " First of all, do not ever call me that ever again. Second, " Tinsley glanced back at the crowd of gossiping witches, seeing ogling at her without shame. Wasn't it supposed to be rude to stare? No doubt that they were spreading stories about her newfound attitude. Before this whole mess, Tinsley was the bumbling child. She had been just a happy and friendly person in general. Now, she could be seen staring off in the distance in the class, choosing to avoid conversations rather then to be included in them. And of course, the moment of her return just happens to be with Quinn. At least, that's what they're probably thinking. " This might surprise you, but there are good people in the world. People aren't keen to take advantage of a girl. " Tinsley scoffed.
The random act of kindness did not do anything, whatsoever, to improve her relationship with Quinn. If anything, it only made her more annoyed. Of course, leave it to him to pass off as innocent to the world. The guy, even if an unsufferable jerk, was a genius. Tinsley could almost feel her gag at the wink the bartender threw them. Did they look like a couple to him? Tinsley reviewed the scene. Oh, yeah- they probably did. Clearly, he didn't know them very well. " You are a disgusting jerk. " Tinsley commented, still very much annoyed.
Oh, how she wanted to throw her drink at him. Only he can make a comment like that in public. Staring at him, speechless, Tinsley shouldn't really be shocked at this point. " Well, good for you. Because that's the last time it's ever going to happen. " Tinsley fumbled, unable to think of anythin gelse.
She blinked in confusion when he made to talk to some hufflepuffs. Good, maybe he'll leave her alone now. But apparently not. Her mouth dropped open, staring at him in disbelief. Surely, even someone like him, he wouldn't tell? However, she had a funny answer that the answer would be yes- yes he would. That jerk. Giving him the darkest look she could muster, she turned to the hufflepuffs.
Oh, wonderful. They were now ogling at her with disbelief. Tinsley scanned her mind. Oh, no. She knew them ! Not very well, of course. But they had been most keen to see how she had been doing. Stupid caring hufflepuffs. Giving them a weak, and somewhat pathetic and not at all convincing, smile, Tinsley aimed a kick at Quinn. " Don't listen to him. He has no idea what he's talking about. " Tinsley said weakly, a weak attempt really. She avoided his eyes while speaking, trying to keep calm.

`` Mr. Q. B. Grey_______________“This might surprise you, but there are good people in the world. People aren't keen to take advantage of a girl.”
He rounded upon her again, the Hufflepuffs having received their drinks but seemingly unwilling to leave what may turn out to be some top quality drama – even though the conversation level had dropped several tones and resided quietly below the level of the general white noise of the tavern – edging away slightly to try to draw the Slytherin and Gryffindor into a sense of heightened privacy and lower their guard levels. “This might surprise you,” he retorted with disconcertingly calm tones, the spite intended in his voice hidden in the undercurrents due to the low volume he was obliging her with, “but the advantage isn’t always taken entirely against the girl.”
He hoped that she would pick up on the point that he was trying to make; he too had had more than a few drinks before their first encounter, his front of needing no one dropping several notches and his state leading him to actually meet the alien emotion of caring. His initial intentions had been admirable enough, he had been concerned why Tinsley hadn’t been enjoying herself as the masses were, he had wanted to get her smiling and joining in with the celebrations that had been going on around the castle; of course, his usual ulterior motive remained, since she was pretty enough for Quinn’s shallow self to engage with, he clearly would have liked for something to happen. But conversation had come easily to him then, he found himself relatively happy with simply sitting with his arm around her, listening to whatever it had been that troubled her (not that he remembered now of course, the details remained behind that familiar thin veil of drink haze). He did remember however that, although he had probably been much more forward than he would have been sober, he wouldn’t have forced her to do anything – pestered and enticed, yes, but not forced – that was more the forte of one or two of his friends. He supposed that his memory would be selectively bias though, showing him in a better light than was perhaps true, but it made him wonder why exactly it showed him this particular version of events – surely he would rather see himself with his day-to-day, devil-may-care demeanour rather than this normalised, watered-down personality shown.
He could already hear Tinsley’s response to his claims though; he wouldn’t have expected or wanted less than an answer which rendered his words impertinent and preposterous – preferably using those words in her little holier-than-thou speech, to add to the pantomime. He shrugged a little, looking nonchalant, as he took another swig of his drink, eyes once again focused upon the Gryffindor and challenging her into the response that he expected. He could hear the giggling of the Hufflepuffs behind him, now sounding much more like their full four than the two who had been sent up to get the drinks and much closer again than they had been on previous occasion. He wondered exactly how far she would go, how much she would say with them in such close proximity – but he wouldn’t let her off with it all that easily, however she may try to sidestep the issue he would bring it back to the forefront of their conversation, dangling just enough bait to keep her interest and try to keep her on the defensive.
“But Tinsley,” he said with dramatic effect as he was dismissed to the Hufflepuffs, taking a step back from the bar so that both parties were privy to his next words (although he was addressing the sole Gryffindor, he was greatly playing up the situation for the benefit of the others who were gathered close), “don’t you remember? It wasn’t all that long ago...” he looked at her pointedly, enquiringly. He relaxed his stance a little, removing some of the severity that his demeanour had cast upon the announcement, “Okay, okay, I know you’re a little embarrassed by it, but it’s nothing to be ashamed of – really.” He paused – seen to be for the effect of the Hufflepuffs and to afford Tinsley the opportunity to unveil the truth herself. His look was still levelled on the Seventh year and in no way matching the lightness of his words or posture, edging on threatening; before he suddenly turned and his expression grew very swiftly full of an excitement that was very obviously exaggerated, “Tinsley can’t fly. At all. I saw her fall off her broom yesterday, crashed into a tree! Imagine that, daughter of Oliver Wood too!” He laughed sycophantically for a moment, before turning quickly to Tinsley again, eager for response. STATUS;; done. WORDS;; seven-eight-eight. Oh, Merlin.
It was the one thing that Tinsley did not want to hear. Clearly, she had been under the heavy influence of firewhiskey that night. But that's why, isn't it? Tinsley knew herself well enough to know that she wasn't the one night stand kind of girl. She can barely succeed in a honest-to-goodness relationship, much less a 'friends with benefits' kind of thing. The just the thought made her inwardly cringe. She just wasn't that girl. But clearly, on that fated night, she had been. The sad thing is, Tinsley couldn't blame it entirely on the drink.
Most obviously, she had no romantic feelings for Quinn whatsoever. None. Had it been a sheer of the moment thing? Heavily influenced by the drink? Most likely. Back then, Tinsley could recall being a different person. She used to be more fun, anyone could see that. She had been more carefree back then. And Quinn, oh how it killed her to admit this, had been fun back then. Before the whole thing blew up in her, obviously.
But clearly, she wasn't that girl anymore.
However, she couldn't find a single sane reply to that comment. Jerk.
Maybe Tinsley had been drunkier than she had thought that night. Though she couldn't remember what exactly happened next, she could remember what had happened before. Still fuzzy on the details, she could remember having just a plain old bad day. Everything felt like crap that day. Normally, before this, she was a lot more fun at parties. But that day, it was as if her heart wasn't into it. However, she couldn't resist saying no to a friend, most likely Roxanne. The sad part? No, that wasn't even it. Unable to think anymore, the first and hopefully last time, Tinsley had drowned herself in firewhiskey until her brain was too numb to think.
Yes, she had definitely been unclear that night. Because, as it seemed, it almost seemed like Quinn had cared. But like she said, the girl had been drunk. So clearly, that was all apart of her imagination. That settles that.
Had she been so upset that she had been willing to take comfort from a mere drink, and good heavens, Quinn? That didn't sound like her. As far as everybody was concerned, including her,- Tinsley was the good girl at Hogwarts. She strayed away from anything that might ruin her future, her family, and herself. It just seemed like the right thing to do. But doing the sole walk of repent was not easy. Some people would say it's human nature to be selfish. No one can be perfect, but yet Tinsley felt like she had to try.
But she didn't brood. She didn't mope. She had been the walking on sunshine kind of girl. Tinsley had tried to keep up the perfect image, for everybody's sake. Did that not count for anything? And then boom! Just like that. Everything shatters. The glass castle fell to the ground, dragging the princess down with it. How do you repair something that's been broken into pieces? It can't be put back together like a puzzle. And just like that, piece by piece, it began to fall. Brenan was just the final blow.
" You know what would be a good idea, Quinn? Why don't you try closing your mouth and keeping it in your pants for once? " At least she wasn't completely gone. There's still a touch of self-defense in her somewhere. Normally, she wouldn't be as...snappy. But she felt as though the event called for it.
Ashamed? How could he said that? Tinsley was nothing but ashamed. She blinked slightly when he said the last part, before the anger sunk in. Only a complete pig like Quinn would do that to her. Trying her best not to dump her drink on him, Tinsley glared at him ruthlessly. " What the hell was that for? "

`` Mr. Q. B. Grey_______________He folded his arms across his chest, body clearly turned towards Tinsley now (though the Hufflepuffs didn’t seem to take, or be inclined to take, the hint that their part in the conversation was over – for all that they had added to it, simply in the convenient place at a convenient time). “It’s in my pants just now... want some proof?” he couldn’t resist the comeback even if it meant admitting defeat to the first of her requests, moving his hands as if to undo the top button of his jeans but pausing before actually doing so, smirking at her through the curtain of blonde hair that had fallen in front of his eyes, an eyebrow raised for effect – though he was unsure whether or not she could actually see his expression. “But not so fast Ms. Wood.” he raised a finger as if to stop her and leant in closer to her, with his voice dropped so that even the eavesdroppers couldn’t discern what he was saying, “No second chances so easily...” His smirk tugged to a smug, lopsided grin which dissipated quickly as he straightened up again and flicked his hair from his face.
He glanced down to the most forward of the group of other students, leaning against the bar at such an angle that her brown hair was almost finding the liquid in Quinn’s glass and her shoulder was a mere centimetre or two from the small of his back. Her expression remained full of curiosity though, clearly oblivious to his private comment, and expectant of something more than being a simple viewer of the scene. She beamed at him, an expression of uncertainty glancing across his features, before responding to all of her unspoken questions with a tone and look of dismissal, “Can I help you? You have no more lines in this play, and missed your chance for a notable exit...” Her expression changed, and with a noise of offence she pushed herself up (attempting to shunt the Slytherin with her shoulder, but misjudging pressures and failing) and stalked off back towards their pile of shopping, the others tottering along in her wake with expressions a mix of distaste and lust... but mostly distaste, for loyalties sake.
“What the hell was what?” he replied to the Gryffindor in more open tones, presenting the casual act of examining his nails – though it remained blatant that he was watching the student’s expression changing and had no interest in the state of his cuticles. He raised his eyebrows, still purposefully not meeting her glare, “I didn’t tell them anything about anything... at least they might actually believe that lie, rather than give them nothing and have them speculate...” he seemed to ponder this for a moment, “We-ell, maybe not – I think my pantomime tone might have given it away a bit.” He shrugged again, scratching his chin off-handedly and took another drink.
The determination behind her glare struck him then however, he wondered quite how he had managed to merit that level of hatred between this short meeting and the previous longer one; surely it hadn’t made that much of an impact on her. Quinn was fully willing to acknowledge the fact that she viewed him as a mistake – okay, a big mistake, a huge mistake – but people made mistakes all the time without such melodrama, and he couldn’t wrap his head around why someone would hold such an ardent passion against what had been such ardent passion (albeit drunken and meaningless). He didn’t understand the need for a facade of such excellence and exactness in a person, and wondered on the motivations for such an act to be played out; yet here she was, Tinsley Wood, epitome of all that was looked for in a wonderful student, daughter, friend – what was the problem with a mistake or two? Surely by true character alone one could be redeemed. For all he was shallow and vain and self-righteous at least Quinn knew he was for the most part happy.
The Slytherin dropped the smirk from his face, his tone acquiring a more serious element in amongst all the ego and arrogance that he never could remove entirely, “I thought I was doing you a favour. Saw them come in, saw them judge you, got rid of them with a half-way viable story of why someone like you was associating with someone like me.” He took a drink, forthrightness and seemingly bare honesty cancelled out by his next words, “More for my sake, some of us still have our morals intact and reputation free from jeopardy.” He gave her a “that’s another point in my favour” look, drinking again. Tinsley has never been one to jump for a chance in the spotlight. She didn't care about being the number one girl at Hogwarts. All Tinsley cared about right was to get through life. Before, she hadn't cared about the future. It simply didn't capture her interest. In a way, Tinsley almost felt as though that brief period of peace was over. The grief forced her to look at things in ways she's never done before. She used to be fun, that Tinsley knew. She used to be a lot of things. Back then, Quinn wouldn't be as much of a bother. The old Tinsley probably could've brushed him off and left it after that. But she had no idea how to get back to that Tinsley. A part of her just want to go back in time and live in that happy little bubble.
Sure, she had been slightly bored and whatnot. But she hadn't been the walking zombie of Hogwarts. Despite her efforts, she thought she could go back to being that old Tinsley. Now, she's the girl whose brother died. Tinsley has never been a big fan of gossip, but this is just ridiculous. She didn't want to be broken. No, she wasn't broken. Just...confused. But she had been just too stubborn to actually admit it.
Tinsley choked slightly on her drink before turning her head the other way. That disgusting pig. Covering her eyes with her hand, Tinsley gritted her teeth. The boy was getting on her last nerve. Not only was she a whole lot drunker than what she had started out, but Quinn had an unusual talent of getting on her bad side.
" Oh, that's real classy, Quinn. " Tinsley huffed, still not looking at him. Even worse, the hufflepuffs were still peering at her. As if to say ' oh, hey look! There's Tinsley ! I wonder what's going to happen next ! ' She was not a book, waiting to be read. Her patience was being slowly tested. As he moved closer, Tinsley resisted the urge to slap him. " Don't be vain. That's the last thing I want. " Tinsley shot back, with a look of digust.
Tinsley believed that everybody has a good side in them. Some are just buried deep down. And in this case, deep deep down. As annoyed as she was with the curious hufflepuffs, she pitied them. As one of them attempted to hit on Quinn, Merlin knows why, and as he, himself, rejected her- Tinsley couldn't help but feel bad. Not because of the rejection, she'll thank God for it later, but rather the way that she had been treated. Glaring at Quinn, Tinsley crossed her arms. " You didn't have to be such a jerk. " Tinsley scowled. She stared at him in disbelief. He couldn't actually believe that, could he? " You are the most oblivious person I've ever met. " Tinsley confirmed with an eyeroll. Oh, God help her.
Ever since the whole thing started, Tinsley just wanted to get through life without needing therapy or having a nervous breakdown. She wasn't going to get caught up in any other messes from now on, as she could only hope. She was just going to be Tinsley- not the sister of the brother who died.
Yes, he really was getting on her nerves. " They would't've noticed me if it wasn't for you. " Tinsley scoffed. She had never been one of those attention-seeking girls, so why would they look at her? Unless they were interested in a deadbeat person like herself. Oh, now he was lecturing her. On morals, nonetheless. The boy really did have a talent. " What morals? " Tinsley asked skeptically, raising an eyebrow.
Another thought popped in her mind. " You know, you could try. You know, being a good person. " Tinsley told him, wondering if it was truly a lost cause.

`` Mr. Q. B. Grey_______________He tipped his head and glass to her in acknowledgement of her compliment – noting the sarcasm but choosing to disregard it in effort of maintaining form and annoying her further – muttering to his drink, in undertones, a reply; more to himself than for direct impact upon the Gryffindor, “I’m just a classy kind of guy... and you keep telling yourself that darling...” He shook his head lightly with a matching smile upon his mouth; whilst a small voice in his head argued, Grey was too much ego to take into consideration that maybe his particular set of charms and accolades weren’t something that would fell Tinsley for a second time and that perhaps her heart really did say no right along with her lips.
His attitude had firm basis on past experience to his credit however, teaching him that whilst few would openly admit wanting something from him they were more than happy to stick around and pretend like they were irked by his presence – only to voice the strongest protest should he have made any effort to leave their proximity only to then turn on a full scale assault of flirting. And the Slytherin knew that he too employed this tactic from time to time, situation dependant of course (having both people play that same game never usually ended with a positive outcome). So the small voice of reason that could tell the Tinsley blatantly wasn’t headed for Phase 2 anytime soon was ignored in favour of the voice that egged him on and urged him to continue as he would in normal circumstances.
He looked over his shoulder to the table which the Hufflepuffs had taken up, now looking at Tinsley with sour looks that portrayed blame for their friend’s dismissal on her, their sharp glances punctuated with hasty comments thrown to each other and cruel smiles at the obviously derogatory slants. “Would you rather they were still here?” he questioned, slowly returning his gaze back to the Gryffindor, “And I explain to them why we’re standing in conversation? Why I suddenly lost my ability to lie and why you go scarlet at the mere suggestion of anything in my presence?” The smile on his lips now held no warmth or joke, though the look did not quite extend to his eyes, betraying the threat as idle; braggart as he was, he wasn’t one to name names nor tell just anyone who would listen (something which Tinsley seemed as of the moment thoroughly unawares of).
He pinned her with a look that told of the fact that he didn’t think even she believed that. “Oh, come on... you’re not old news yet. Dead relatives and their surviving kin are a big thing at Hogwarts, didn’t you know?” He threw half a look to the Hufflepuff girls again, “And it’s not me that they’re gossiping about now... though it’s probably my fault...” an expression of self-satisfaction flitted across his features before he disappeared behind his drink again and drained half of the remaining liquid. Ruffling his hair a little, he afforded the rejected girl and her friends a false flash of an appreciatory smile, accompanied by the obligatory (and utterly confusing, given prior goings on) once over flirting glance – not entirely willing to burn his bridges there even whilst trying to prove his point to the Seventh year.
“What morals?”
He scoffed, raising his eyebrows at her to twist his expression to one of condescension and accompany his matter-of-fact tonality, “Everyone knows what I’m like, what I do... who I do.” he smirked a little at this, whilst he might not brag others certainly did (and the lies he had heard!), “So long as I live by those morals, I’m in the clear here...” He shrugged as she questioned the honour in his actions, hiding what might have been a flicker of doubt behind his drink before answering in measured, yet defensive, tones, “Just because I’m honest I’m not a good person? Because I know what I like and go for it? Fair enough I don’t play by the rules when I can help it, but I don’t do any lasting damage so what’s the harm, eh?” STATUS;; done. WORDS;; six-nine-eight. There are some people who people consider to be 'lost causes.' That they've been far too corrupted for anyone to fix. At times, Tinsley didn't believe that. No one is too far along to save, not if they really tried. But, of course, that view starts to fade slowly, when something like this happens. Everybody has a good side and everybody has a bad side. But it's always up to them to pick which one they want to live by. When Brenan died, Tinsley had settled for drowning herself in firewhiskey every night, avoiding those who matters most to her. But she wasn't a complete lose case...was she? At this point, Tinsley was fed up with all the taunts and whatnot. " Very. " Tinsley scoffed, rolling her brown eyes. What kind of person has that big of an ego?
Her pity for the hufflepuffs vanished immediately. Morons. They were better off without Quinn in their lives, anyways. If only they could get it through their thick skulls. And even worse, they thought it was her fault? Tinsley would happily trade spots with any one of them right now. And they say that she didn't have a selfish bone in her body. Ha. The problem with drifting off in your own world, it's quite a hard fall when you come back to reality. Tinsley, the old Tinsley, would've never let Quinn talk to her this way. She wouldn't've just sat here. But of course, it's different when that old Tinsley died along with her brother.
Still, there was a little spark within her that told her to stand up for herself. She wasn't a puppet. " We're having this conversation because what happened that night will never happen again. The hufflepuffs can and will live without your presence for a few minutes. " Who knew talking even for that short amount could make her go exhausted. She didn't have the mental energy to go against Quinn right now, nor will she ever at the rate she's going.
His tone, however, surprised her. It wasn't offensive. It was defense. Had Tinsley hit a nerve? She flashed back to what she had said a few moments before. Oh, dear Merlin. If you had asked her a few minutes ago, Tinsley would've told you that he had no morals, no honor whatsoever. Now she wasn't so sure. Maybe he did, after all. She didn't see that one coming. " You know, You think that you're the devil of Hogwarts. But I don't think you are. Yes, you annoy the hell out of me and every other female, but you can't be all that bad. There has to be a part of you that actually cares. " Tinsley pondered, without a moment of hesistation. She could be simply wasting her time, but it was worth a shot.
" So, while you think that over- I'll be going now. " Tinsley sighed, hopping off the stool. It was something she should've done a long time ago.
