this can be either a sweet dreamA BEAUTIFUL NIGHTMAREstarstruck by your side either way, I don't want to wake up
People assume way to much for their own good. They're far too keen for trouble then they should be. And most importantly, we don't give them nearly enough credit for their wit. It was completely and utterly stupid for Tinsley to think she would be able to live in her plastic, personal bubble. To think she could go through all seven years without being drawn into trouble and pain. Well, perhaps not pain. But certainly trouble.
Why people think of her as a Saint, Tinsley has no idea. She was no Saint. Of course, she wasn't a raging bitch. But still. No matter what she did, however much trouble she gets into- she's always 'that girl.' That girl that's so delicate, she needs to be protected from the wind. Didn't they know what Tinsley might do? To do the things that she's been tempted with all too many times?
No, of course not. Because she was just 'that girl.' Too restless to sleep and too tired to do anything productive, a swim was just exactly with Tinsley needed. She loved the waters, the way the gentle soothing water just lapped you up. To emerge underwater in silence, to live in those precious delicate moments in wonderful peace. Naturally, it doesn't last long. But Tinsley's always been one to live in the moment.
It's always been dreadfully simple for her; to brush past the pain and anger. To forgive and forget, to watch the past fall behind. Despite her inner troubles, Tinsley was a, if not bubbly person, childlike spirit. She's compassionate enough to hide her selfish wills. She's clever enough to offset her unhappiness, if she should have that emotion. One can only hope against it.
Class was finally over, you could see students running back to their towers. But Tinsley didn't want to go back inside to that crowded excitement, she just wanted a couple moments alone. A giddy feeling bubbled up inside her, making her somewhat speechless. She hasn't felt this way in a while. It wasn't that she was sadist or mentally depressed- but to feel like a wonderous child again was a beautiful feeling.
Closing her eyes, Tinsley settled for floating in the water. Another feeling spurred up inside her. She was completely and utterly alone- something rare for a person like herself. People often commented that she should spend her time with a group of people, in the spotlight. Well, Tinsley's never asked for the spotlight. At times, it just comes to her. But now, out of all times, she wished for someone to make her...less lonely.
She's spent her life in a plastic bubble, surrounded by over protective friends and family members. It was time to branch out and live life to the fullest. And being treated like a fragile flower was definately not her pick to spend life.
Then again, maybe she was should be care for what she wishes for.

The Slytherin looked directly at the professor that stood in front of the class; even though he looked like he was fully awake James was starting to fall asleep slowly. Hearing the scraping of chairs and the noise of students packing their belonging away, James looked around and slowly stood up – right now James did not feel like he was in his own body. He felt that he was still at the Common Room sleeping in his warm and comfortable bed.
Sighing quietly to himself the Slytherin moved through the crowd of students – making sure that he did not come in contact with any of them. People annoyed him. That was it that was all his problem was; James has never been the kind of person to strike up a conversation with any random person. It was not that he found it hard to do that – he just did not want to do that. Most of the time he was just the type of guy that did not want to get involved in other peoples problems – so his solution was to just stay away from people: to him they were the problem.
Okay, so he was not some anti-social loser or anything like that. James spoke to everyone in the Common Room – whenever he could be bothered – and he got on with them. One thing that he really hated was people that moaned a lot. Especially whiny little blondes; who act like the world revolves around them – when it in fact does not do that. Tilting his neck to the side the Slytherin stared at a group of blondes who were standing there yapping away like little Chihuahua’s. Turning away from the annoying noise, he headed towards the grounds around the school.
James had no idea where he was actually planning to go, but walking would have done some good for him. The peace and quiet around the here was great and he loved it. No annoying people to really get his blood boiling – just quiet. Smiling to himself, the Slytherin walked along the path and kept his eyes down. If he made no eye contact with people then he would not have someone coming over to him and talking to him. It was a good idea and right now it was working pretty well.
His attention was taken by a brunette that was afloat in the water. Stopping for a second the Slytherin just stood there watching the beautiful girl that lay there. A small smile crept on his face as he looked way from her and turned his eyes to the sky above. James knew who this girl was, but he did not know of her name. For a second the Slytherin tried to think of what her name was, but nothing was coming to him. Instead he took his eyes away from the sky and looked down at the girl again. His feet slowly took a few steps forward as he sat down on the green grass.
”What’s a pretty girl like you doing out here all alone?” he finally spoke out as he kept his gaze on the girl – smiling slightly as he spoke to her. This was probably the first time that James had ever started a conversation himself: it was not good being so lonely, everyone needs to find someone to talk to every now and again; and right now this girl was going to be that person for James. That was if she spoke back to the Slytherin. However, there was no one that did not want to talk to James – even if that did make him seem quite bigheaded.

this can be either a sweet dreamA BEAUTIFUL NIGHTMAREstarstruck by your side either way, I don't want to wake up
Tinsley doesn't like to say that she's different, exactly. Although she shuddered at the thought of being like everyone else, sometimes- a difference can become a huge impact. She never could get herself to care about what all those other girls care about. She never had the 'love at first sight' feeling whenever a male happens to pass by. She never had the 'special mother-daughter' moment in all her seventeen years. And never, ever, has she once ever felt the urge to gossip about her friends, trade secrets, not that she has very many, or to giggle about males and exchange who said whats. Maybe she was different. Perhaps the teenage female gene just skipped over her. And for that, she wasn't sure if she was grateful or not.
Still, it's nice just to be...well, she wasn't sure what the word was- but the feeling was nice. Did she mature too fast? Did she peak early? Honestly, only God knows the answer. As much as she longed to giggle about 'certain professors' along with her friends and actually mean it- she can't. Besides, spending time by yourself can't hurt. The water was soft and gentle, it slowly pushed her back and forward. It was, in fact, very soothing.
What’s a pretty girl like you doing out here all alone?
At first, Tinsley's mind didn't register the words. No, it took a couple of seconds for it to sink in. Suddenly, the water didn't seem so gentle- it was choking her. Her first, and most reasonable, reaction was fear. Now, Hogwarts isn't dangerous. Well, aside from the minor burns and cuts that you get from Herbology, of course. But no one gets...attacked. Not for a while, at least. Besides, why would anyone want to hurt her? Not to sound vain, but it certainly is true. Aside from family issues, she very much doubts she knows anyone who would like to actually harm her. It would be silly.
The words didn't seem dangerous, anyways. If anything, it was flattering. But in all honesty- Tinsley wasn't expected to be flattered. She simply just doesn't know how to react to any signs of male behavior, aside from her brothers'. She never bothered to care, out of a million starstruck girls. Second, she still doesn't know who was talking to her. She didn't recongize the voice at any rate.
She bit her bottom lip for a moment, still unsure. Exhaling, she mentally shook herself. Tinsley has no reason to be nervous. If this person wanted to hurt her, she'd be drowning right about now. It wasn't as if she was in any position to defend herself. Turning herself around, she saw...a male? Not only that...a very good-looking one. Now, that was strange. She doesn't go around seperating the opposite genders into two groups. But it was true. She vaguely remember seeing him around the castle once or twice. He was in her year, but that's about it.
Common sense gripped her. He wasn't a Gryffindor- that she was sure. Now, that was even stranger. Why would someone from another house talk to her? It wasn't like she was prejucided- but she was vaguely sure that he was a ravenclaw or a slytherin. Hufflepuffs don't...well, you can always tell if someone's a hufflepuff. Then...she remembered. Right- he asked her a question. Well, techically- it wasn't really a question. It felt more like a statement.
" Well, I'm not really alone anymore. " Tinsley said, as those words were the first to come to her mind. But something funny was going on up there. Her mind refused to work. This day was just getting stranger second by second. But his eyes were really blue.
Oh, right. The question. It wasn't like she was going to say 'Oh, you know. I didn't feel like spending time gossiping and chattering about nothing.' No, she wasn't that dense. Besides, she doesn't want to judge those other girls- she supposed it's just something they enjoy doing. But what else was she going to say? Now that Tinsley thought about it, she wasn't even sure why she was here. All she knew was that the Black Lake was a relaxing place.
" And I can ask you the same question. " Tinsley told him lightly, making eye contact for the second time. It was her natural instinct to look away. Because his eyes were really blue.

The Slytherin stared down at the grass as he waved his hands gently across the short green grass. His attention turned to the petite brunette as he heard her voice. Smiling to himself James looked across at her as she crossed his arms. ”Now that’s true.” he smirked at her comment about her not being alone anymore. The Slytherin nodded as he looked around, there was no one was else wandering around it was just the two of them right now, and well James liked that. He did not want a crowd of people around while trying to talk to the young girl. Having lots of people here would have only made James feel really uncomfortable. Sure he may have looked like some tough guy who did not take shit from anyone, but he still felt weird talking to girls.
Sighing quietly to himself, James looked up at the girl and smirked. This time he stared into her eyes as he started to talk. ”Hmm, how about I wanted some peace and quiet?” the Slytherin tried as he smiled at her. This had probably been the first smile James had given to anyone in a while. It was not like James was all cold-hearted and did not show his nice side; it was just that he was not very good at showing the nice side to people. However, James was finding it easy doing that for the girl before him. Maybe it depended on the type of person then? But that would not have been a good theory; because James did not know her at all.
”So, you got a name then?” the Slytherin asked all of a sudden, after sitting through a few seconds of silence. This was the sort of thing that always happened with James when he was talking to someone. The conversation would be flowing –slightly – then it would just die down again. That was hardly his fault though; he just was not used to thinking of something to say to someone – now that made the Slytherin sound a bit anti-social. ”I guess I could tell you that I’m James” he spoke out as he tried to humour the girl. He did not know whether it had worked, but he gave her a smile as he looked down at the grass, yet again.
Wow, this had been the second time that the Slytherin had smiled in the past few minutes. That was pretty weird for James. A soft frown crossed his face as he kept his head down and looked at his hands. He did not want the girl to see him smiling – well, mainly because he thought that if anyone saw him smiling would see him to be weak; and to James that was not a good thing at all. He would rather have people think he was a mean guy than a soft guy – that was just one of the weird things about James. It seemed that he would rather be hated then liked.

this can be either a sweet dreamA BEAUTIFUL NIGHTMAREstarstruck by your side either way, I don't want to wake up
There was just something about this guy that interested her, he was just so...different. At least, the way he treated her was different. But that just might be because she's a total stranger. Still. It unnerved her, but somehow- it was...good. Tinsley couldn't help but be curious. No one has actually openly talked to her like this, not without another intention in mind. For the first time in a while, Tinsley couldn't help but be just a bit speechless. Normally she won't comment on something unless it's required, but this time- she honestly can't find anything to say. Wrapping herself in her cover-up, Tinsley barely felt the thin breeze. Of course, Tinsley was usually smarter than this. Talking to complete strangers wasn't exactly her idea of 'wit.'
Hmm, how about I wanted some peace and quiet?
Just as Tinsley was about to do something idiotic- like run?, he spoke again. For a second, Tinsley mused to herself. Could he read her mind? It seemed highly unlikely- but it was as if he picked the words straight out of her head. There was just something about the way he talks to her that made her feel like a child, but yet- someone different. Or perhaps the water from the Lake has gone to her head. Yes, that sounds like a good excuse. But the desire to leave was gone. Tinsley had every intention to keep her face straight so that they could...what? It wasn't as if Tinsley had anything he wanted. Well, unless he was Puddlemere United fan.
Still, Tinsley's never had much experience in...well, talking to people about herself. It sounds weird, doesn't it? But it was to be expected. She is a Wood, after all. But the smile he gave her was definately...different, for she is utterly incapable of finding another word. Most people treated her the same way they always do. A little smile, as if she was a child who didn't understand. Their smile always said ' That's a nice thought. But why don't you let the adults handle this? '
So, you got a name then?
Maybe it's her fault, but she can't remember the last time she's looked someone in the eye while having a conversation. People would go up to her and talk about what happened and such, and Tinsley would respond. But that was it. That's all those conversations ever went. Tinsley knew what they wanted to hear, what they needed to hear. So it was always simplier for them, and her, to just say those things. But apparently, those circumstances doesn't apply here.
" I'm Tinsley, " She offered, struck by a sudden nagging to say something. Anything, for the love of Merlin. Without a second thought or a reason why, she smiled back. In all honesty- Tinsley is a happy person. She gets her moments of self-doubt from time to time, like everyone else. But like many other things, she can't remember the last time she smiled for no reason. Yup- the water was definately going to her head, if she would be one to lie.
Her brown eyes lifted with amusement- she couldn't help it. James was just special, in a way that Tinsley couldn't put in words. And that just made her...unnerved. Confused. But pleased. She wasn't used to dealing with moments like this. Because she was just...well- she was just Tinsley.
" And I agree. Peace and quiet is just something you won't find in Hogwarts. " Tinsley added softly, like a little four year old offering his opinion on something.

James could not help but look at the brunette as she came out of the water; well it was going to be hard to look away from a girl that was as hot as her. Turning his head slightly the Slytherin tried averting his attention to the lake his eyes glared into the water as he waited for the girl to be decent. This was pretty odd of James; usually he would have jumped at an opportunity like this to look at a girl like her. However, for some reason he did not feel right looking at her. Pushing his hands through his hair, the Slytherin heard her voice and nodded slightly as she said her name. ”Tinsley? Nice name” James said quietly, of course he was not talking to himself he just did not speak loud enough. The Slytherin had not just said her name was nice to get into her good books; he generally thought that it was a nice name, and it suited her very much.
”I know half of them in there don’t even know the meaning of quiet” he laughed slightly while looking over his shoulder to the school that stood far in the distance behind the two of them. To be truthful James actually hated it here at the school. He thought it was one of the worst places to be, why did they need to learn all this crap? They could do this at home – so James thought anyway. Sure, James liked to learn – to some extent – but it was just the teachers that annoyed him. He hated being told what to do, and well around here that was the only thing that ever happened. If your cloak was not on properly, you would be told to sort it out. If you were daydreaming in class, you would be told to pay attention. It really annoyed James, but this was something that every magical kid had to go through. Or well, any other normal person as well.
”You come out here often then?” the Slytherin spoke as he kept his eyes on the girl. Whenever James was talking to someone he always kept eye contact with whoever it was. If it was a female that he was talking to then James would definitely keep eye contact with her. He liked to use his eyes a lot; this was because he thought they were quite powerful and well the first thing he looked at was the persons eyes – so in James’s mind he thought that people did the same as well. It could be said that James used his eyes too much to get whatever he wanted. That was just the way James was, sometimes that was why he seemed quite intimidating to people; because of his attitude and his amazing eyes.

this can be either a sweet dreamA BEAUTIFUL NIGHTMAREstarstruck by your side either way, I don't want to wake up
Maybe it's been a while since she's been with a boy [ not including her brothers or her father ], but a part of was openly curious. It was ridiculous. Being the 'baby' [ thanks a lot, Dad ] of the family, even though she just happens to be the second oldest, was not something she takes pride in. Even her youngest brother watches her as if she was a child. Still, she had been lectured Merlin-knows-how-many-times about the 'sins' of men. Of course, she hadn't really paid any attention to the speech back then. Just the basics, of course. But she was somewhat sure that this wasn't how a normal boy reacts to a female who've just walked out of the lake. But then again, it has been a while.
The thought that she's even thinking about that conversation just makes her feel...like a child. For a moment, when this conversation started, Tinsley hadn't felt like herself. It was a blessing, really. She didn't have to think 'What should I say?' or anything along those lines. The walls went down, for just a spilt second. Just the fact that that had happened just made her...afraid. Again, but that only made her feel more like a child.
As she turned around, she could've sworn she saw his lips move. But nothing came out. Curiosity got the best of her, as one would say. Brushing her long chestnut hair out of her eyes, Tinsley hesistated. She was torn, once again, between two choices. She was allurred, but normally that wouldn't be a good thing.
I know half of them in there don’t even know the meaning of quiet
For the second time that day, Tinsley was speechless. Or was it the third? Once again, it was as if he had just read her mind. How many times had she wished to be alone in her seven years? People find her, they tell her their problems. Was it because Tinsley never told them the truth? They might ask for advice, but Tinsley never actually gave them her honest opinion. Just what they wanted to hear. A wave of guilt rode through her- what kind of friend was she? But without meaning to, she had to laugh at his honesty. Really, she was still in shock. No one, and she does mean no one, talked to her like this. Second real laugh of the day. It was beginning to get strange.
You come out here often then?
Whatever thought that she had been thinking, it's gone now. It was so unfair- the way he uses his eyes. She could almost resent him for it, but that just wouldn't make any sense. It was almost a challenge. But that's what Tinsley gets for avoiding most of the male population [ can you really blame her? ] at Hogwarts. She just hated the way they act around her. Except for James. She didn't want to look away, so she kept the contact. Of course, that didn't help the fact that she was trying to process a rational thought the moment. But still, Tinsley kept up a pretty good act.
As usual.
" Sometimes. Just when I need to...think. " Tinsley murmured, unable to understand the fact that she was actually telling the truth. This wasn't the normal, happy Tinsley that everyone knew [ and never questioned ]. No, that Tinsley would've just said " I just like to swim. " The problem is- which one is the real Tinsley? However, that's the one question she would like to avoid at all costs.
" You? " Tinsley added, curious.
