Landon didn't really like to smoke too close to the school. It wasn't that he really cared about getting a detention or even get points docked off from his house, he just really hated the number of students who would walk by and make some sort of comment like, 'oh, did you know those are bad for you?' Merlin, of course he knew. What an idiotic question. He normally responded with, 'Shit. You'd think they'd put that kind of valuable information like that on the box or something.' Which normally got him a few confused looks. He was sixteen, he didn't really have to start worrying about his body deteriorating on him just yet. He'd picked up the habit from his parents, who both smoked like freight trains. And they couldn't exactly scold him for doing so without being complete hypocrites. Now normally, Landon didn't waste his time and climb all the way up the mountain range but it was a beautiful day outside. So why not? A look up at the sun, watching it begin its slow descent, told the Slytherin that he may very well get in trouble for being out of the castle after hours. But that was only if he ended up getting caught.
After finally reaching the top, he collapsed down onto the ground. Digging around in his pockets, he found his cigarettes which he lit casually with his wand. He wasn't really sure what had gotten him to start smoking, all he knew now was that they now relaxed him, no matter how stressed he was. After taking a drag, he looked out over the scenery. Sometimes he was taken away by the beauty of nature around him. The splashes of colors in the sunset were mesmerizing; the way the strong shades of reds and blues mixed together, creating the softer tones of pinks and purples. Landon's appreciation for the natural scenery around him was generally only brought out after long durations of time spent within the castle walls.
Normally Landon was a fan of being by himself; he was more independent than most. Sometimes he wondered why that was but the answer was all too clear to ignore. He'd grown up without any siblings and his parents had never really been around, at least after the age of seven. So he'd learned to spend time with himself. He still had a handful of friends here, though most of his relations were generally superficial. Those were his party friends, like Sasha. He barely spoke to her when they weren't playing beer pong or taking shots together but at parties they always had a lot of fun. He often wondered if he was missing out on things but he normally discarded those thoughts immediately. He just didn't have the time to go out of his way to make an ass load of friends; he had too much going on anyways. On top of school he had Quidditch and those two things generally took a big chunk out of the day.
He could have sworn that he heard distant footsteps but out of the times he'd been on the range, he'd never been interrupted before. So he ignored them. Flicking his cigarette he cast his gaze back towards the receding sun.
