He glanced over his shoulder, the looming figure of Hogwarts shimmering in the light of the setting sun. All the events of the day had gone suspiciously well and he would quietly admit that he was now lulled into a sense of security and peace. Roxanne. Yeah, his insides were uncharacteristically soft at the thought or mention of her name but there was a reason for that and now there was one less secret standing between them. The wild Gryffindor had crept into his heart uninvited and the fact that he had finally been able to voice it was something for him. Granted it was a very important step forward he would not write home about it, his mother hadn't contacted him a very long while and their spat might have had something to do with it.
Needless to say he would not be returning home after graduating Hogwarts, instead he would emerge into the world and make his own way. Tonight he was not going to think about home or the lack thereof, not about all the people the school had lost during the outbreak--all the people it was still losing due to grief, deep-rooted depression, or madness. Something happy, something corny and cheesy that belonged on a greeting card resided in his rib cage. Lips slashed into a smile that was wrapped around a cigarette, hands shoved into the pockets of his frayed jeans.
Everyone deserves to be with someone that makes them happy. Somebody who doesn't unnecessarily complicate your life, somebody who won't hurt you. Maybe Ezekiel had been lucky enough to find that person, however, there was always that skeptic...that nasty little voice that rang with the lecture, You never meet your true love in school. But maybe you did, maybe you did meet them but something happened along the way and instead of fighting for it you let it tear you away. That was not necessarily the case with Ezekiel, he fought every day. He fought for his life, his sanity, for his ideals and now he was resolved to fight for love. Once you have experienced it, felt what it can do it gave you power. It gave him power, a resolve he did not have before.
If it didn't give you anything else, it gave you something to live for.
To breathe for.

The petite Gryffindor made her way out of the school carefully, for it was now out of hours and the students were expected to be in bed. Roxanne had never paid much attention to this rule; it was one that she thought to be unnecessary. She knew her father had never listened to it, nor had any other member of her family, except maybe for uncle Percy, but he was an exception. And even he had been out after hours, although give that had been to patrol the halls as a prefect and not to sneak around, but in the end he had been out of bed had he not?
With a smile on her lips and a bounce in her steps she made her way across the grounds knowing she was safe now. The staff and prefects never patrolled the grounds; they seemed to think it was impossible to get out of the castle after hours, how very wrong they were. Roxanne let out a little giggle as she looked at the sky, the deep reds and oranges were bleeding across the sky as the sun set, a warm breeze blew, making her hair dance behind her as she made her way to the gates of the school.
For once there were not thoughts of the virus on her mind. She seemed to be able to put all that behind her when she knew something good was coming. She felt like a bit of an idiot smiling so much, but she couldn’t help herself. This wasn’t an unusual circumstance, Ezekiel and Roxanne had often made plans on the ground after hours, but this was the first time it was happening in months, this was the first time it was happening since they’d come clean to each other. It still blew her away that the feelings were reciprocal. Usually Roxanne could tell when a guy was into her, but with him, she had been filled with doubts and fears for he was her best friend and she never wanted that to change. Now it had, but it was a good change, one that made her smile whenever she thought about it.
The Weasley knew it was a good relationship for her. It was one that was drama free, it was simple and pure. They loved each other and there was no more to it. In the past her relationships had never been like this. In the past there was always something else going on, but it seemed that for once it was all clean and pure. The past was in the past and it wasn’t going to haunt her. He knew about it all and he didn’t care. That was something that spoke volumes in itself. For Roxanne was nowhere near innocent. She had broken hearts; she’d lied and cheated, yet now she was here, in this place in her life where she couldn’t ever do that. She was happy.
Seeing the familiar figure in front of her, a smile warmed her face once more. “Hey you” she said happily. She knew at that moment she was home. For now, her home was where he was. Maybe she was too young to have those thoughts. But home was supposed to be where the heart was and her heart was with him.
So she had come home.
