Jonathan began the rather long walk from the Owlery back towards the Ravenclaw Common Room. It had been two weeks since he had sent a letter to his mother, something which he had always done at least once a week. He'd been hounded with four letters from her, asking if he was alright and just wanting to know the latest news. She was rather annoying sometimes but weren't all overprotective mothers? He couldn't really blame her for being worried, considering recent events that had taken place at Hogwarts.
The crowds in the hallways were far less dense than they were during school hours, which made it far easier to navigate without tripping over anything or stepping on anyone's toes (he had an awful habit of doing just that). It was just towards the end of dinner, thankfully he had gotten some earlier or he might have found himself begging the house elves for food down in the kitchens. Sneaking off to the kitchens in the middle of the night was about as risky as Jonathan dared to be at Hogwarts. He just wasn't really into breaking the rules nor did he ever really have a reason to do so.
After answering the riddle to get into the Ravenclaw Common Room, he stepped inside the ornately decorated room. He was glad that none of the colors for his house were bold, he didn't know if he'd really like walking into the room so much if it were bright yellow and black or something other than the dark blue mixed with bronze. It was easy on the eyes.
The room didn't have many occupants, which was something Jonathan was thankful for. It was hard to get his work done around a lot of people, although he really didn't have any homework that actually needed to be done that night. Instead, he was indulging himself with a historical fiction book is father had lent him about a goblin during one of the Goblin Wars. He wasn't really a fan of fiction but he read just about anything his father recommended to him.
After striding over towards the empty couch, he sank down into easily. There was a small fire going though it wasn't really all that necessary. It was actually rather comfortable compared to the winter months they'd been enduring. After pulling out his book, he placed it in his lap and began to read.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Dei probably should have been working on homework. If she were a good little student, that's what she'd be doing. Hell, under normal circumstances she would. But she had two favorite time to fly; sunup and sundown. When she flew for fun, this is when she normally went. And she needed a healthy form of stress relief. Not only was her mom sending her letters. Nope, she had her grandmother and aunt sending them, too. All. Saying. The. Same. Freaking. Thing. Dei was pretty sure that by the end of her life, she was going to have carpal tunnel syndrome from everything she's written.
So, she was heading back from the pitch to the common room, her hair still messy from flying and a grin on her face. Flying made everything better. It was like the world's happy pill. She wasn't entirely sure what she would do if it wasn't for flying. And Quidditch. She loved Quidditch. She liked the strategy part of it as well as the actual physical game. She liked having things to focus on. Things like the quaffle, her ball, being a chaser. She liked the adrenaline rush of the entire thing. It made her feel alive.
She answered the riddle when she arrived at the common room door. Stepping in, Deirdre was hit with a feeling of warmth, of belonging. This was her home away from home. She had never wanted to be in any other house other than Ravenclaw. It had always been her first choice, ever since her father had told her about the four houses. Yeah, Gryffindor was okay, and Slytherin was cool. And who didn't love the Hufflepuffs? But Ravenclaw...that's where it was at! They were the smart asses, the brilliant ones. The people like her, who worked hard and knew their stuff.
The common room was fairly empty. She wasn't sure whether this was because most people were still out or what, but it was peaceful. She liked peaceful. It was something else that calmed her. Rummaging in her bag for her textbook, some parchment and a quill, she looked for a place to sit. She saw Jonathan sitting by himself. She had a small mental debate on whether or not to go sit with him. They were friends, yes. But he was reading, and she knew that she didn't like it when people interrupted her reading. On the other hand, she would be doing homework, so it wasn't as if she'd be babbling his ear off.
She made her decision and walked over to where he was sitting. "Hey, Jonathan. Mind if I sit here?"

- - - - - - ’cause our lives are going up in flames ! - - - - - - Sophia had always been trying to get him interested in muggle culture. It was one topic which Jonathan had never really known all that much about. It wasn't that he disliked muggles, far from it actually. He admired them for being able to accomplish so much without magic. It was insane how much they could do in all honesty. But he had always felt that there wasn't really a reason for him to learn about their way of life, it didn't really affect him. But after he thought about that, he realized he sounded rather closed-minded and that was something which he loathed in a person. So if he were to not study muggles because they didn't directly affect him, that would make him a hypocrite. And who wants to be a hypocrite?
This philosophy was the very reason which he was reading the book in front of him. It was the introductory book for Muggle Studies. It had been ages since he'd had to read something so elementary, it embarrassed him that he knew so little about a subject. Prior to this he had attempted to read a play by Oscar Wilde but found most of the terms unfamiliar. This is what led him to the conclusion that he needed to do some research. Thankfully he was ahead of his schoolwork, as per usual, and had time to study recreational subjects.
He was reading about their different methods of transportation. Cars that they drove, ones which didn't fly, as well as trains. He could understand those two easily enough. It was the idea of airplanes which got his mind revving. How were they able to come up with ideas like that? It was just impressive. His inner thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice. He cast his glance up towards the redhead, a smile breaking out on his oval shaped face. "Of course not. Sit down," he replied, patting the empty space to his right.
Dei was one of those people who was able to make Jonathan do things he normally wouldn't do. He couldn't really explain the persuasive power she held over him. She'd even talked him into drinking a few times and just causing trouble, something which he normally would never do. She was one of those friends whom he wasn't necessarily sure why they got along so well but for some reason their friendship worked out. It had been a while since he'd talked to her, she always seemed to be busy with Quidditch and whatnot. "How have you been?" he asked, sincerely curious.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Dei grinned at Jonathan and sat down. "Thanks." Jon was one of her favorite non-quidditch people. She actually liked him better than a good portion of the quidditch people. This could be considered an accomplishment. She loved Jon. He was like the more reasonable side of her. She was probably a band influence on him at times, but she tried to be a good friend. She was working on slowly getting him out of his shell. She'd say she was doing a pretty good job at it. She wasn't sure why he went along with half of her crazy ideas, but he was good company. She'd miss him next year when she went to the University. She winced mentally at that. She was leaving after this year. She would be leaving Hogwarts behind her forever. God, she was going to bawl this summer. She had a good number of friends who were younger than her who she would miss dearly. Jon was just one of them.
She beat those thoughts away with a sharp stick and a cross (y'know, just in case). That was one thing Dei didn't need to think about yet. She still had a few weeks before she started clinging to her bed saying 'Don't make me goooo!'. She instead focused on what was going on now. She brushed a strand of hair out of her face. She'd need to re-do that ponytail, else wise it would drive her insane. She had a thing about hair in her face when her hair was up. It tended to distract her from matters at hand. Such as talking to her friend. Dei felt guilty for neglecting him because of Quidditch. It had a tendency to consume her social life.h By the time she got back from practice she either had a ridiculous amount of homework or was so tired that she was about to pass out. Or both.
And so she hadn't talked to him a lot lately. But now she had free time. The homework she had wasn't difficult and could wait until tomorrow. She was determined to catch up with Jon if he would let her. If she wasn't annoying him by doing so. Dei was one of those people who didn't mind silence if there wasn't anything that needed to be said. But this was a special circumstance. "So what's been up with you, Jon? We haven't talked for a while." She glanced at the book he was reading. Ah, Muggle Studies. One of the few classes she never felt the need to take, being raised by a muggle mother. Not that she hadn't though of taking it. "If you ever need help in that class, which I doubt, I can probably help you." She nodded at the book. "My mum's a muggle."

- - - - - - ’cause our lives are going up in flames ! - - - - - - As the vibrant redhead sat down next to him, Jonathan realized quite suddenly that she would be leaving for university in only a short matter of time. The Ravenclaw Common Room would never be the same again. There was something about her personality which he had been drawn to initially, though they seemed like an unlikely pair. But then again, most of Jonathan's friends were rather different from himself. Dei and Tinsley were still the only ones to date who had actually gotten him to go to a party. And they even got him to drink. That was an accomplishment in itself. Dei could definitely be a bad influence at times but he was grateful for her friendship. She was always there for him if he needed her and she was always, always good for a laugh. She was one of the wittiest people he knew. He would really miss her. But he knew he wasn't going to let her leave without promising to owl him frequently. At least that would make the transition to University easier for him, knowing that he already had some friends there.
The whole idea of leaving Hogwarts and going off to a different school was still bewildering to Jonathan even though he had given it a great deal of thought, especially as of late. Once he graduated, there was little chance that he would ever roam the corridors of the school or have a friendly chat with the Fat Friar. There were times that he toyed around with the idea of becoming the Healer for the school once he graduated from the University but he never really took it all that seriously. He knew that was only because he feared he would miss the place too much.
He smiled at her question, "It seriously has been. Quidditch taking up all your time again?" he teased with a knowing smile. "I've been good though, just been doing the usual," he added, wishing he had something interesting to say. Nothing too interesting had happened though, nothing really interesting happened to him in his opinion. "How about you though?" he asked, leaning towards her slightly, waiting to hear about her latest excursions. He laughed at her offer, "I might have to take you up on that sometime but thankfully this isn't for class. Just something I'm choosing to learn about on my own time," he replied. This wasn't out of the usual for him either. He was constantly trying to learn new things. What do you expect from a Ravenclaw anyway?
