In the hospital wing a crowd had gathered- a crowd of those who hadn't been zombified by the virus, a crowd of those who had helped create this miracle, and a small crowd of the healthy who wanted to see their sick friends returned to normal. Alex was on the outside of the circle, and still ill with it, but she felt hope, which was something she hadn't felt since she came down with this damned illness. Mirrors hung around the area, as was to be expected in the hospital wing of the hospital she supposed. The contrast was stark. Healthy people, although looking generally a little worried looked healthy. They probably could smile if they wanted to, whereas Alexei had lost that ability. The ill were emaciated, thinner than they had been before this had happened. They were pale. Even those with tan skin had begun to look chalky.
Alex had tried not to look into these mirrors, but in the end she succumbed. Her skin had lost any lustre, her eyes were deep set and purple bruise like bags surrounded her eyes. Her hair hung without curl or life, and she was much thinner than it was healthy to be. But she supposed she was one of the worst off- one of the earliest cases? She was just happy to have survived. But not to curse it! Tiny vials of a bright green liquid sat on a table at the front of the crowd. Invalids were shuffling forward on slippers and bare feet to this table and collecting a vial, shuffling slowly away again and drinking the tiny sample. Alex, at the back of the queue, waited for a while, but when she shuffled forward she took the vial and immediately almost dropped it. A scramble followed this, with Alex managing to catch it before it hit the floor. A wry grin graced her lips, but it was cut short by a hacking cough coming from her. She shuffled towards the other recovering sick people as fast as she could, and tipping the vial down her throat at the same time. Those who had taken it didn't look much better, but their expressions told a different story. Some of them had started walking about, throwing off duvets and jackets, or putting more on depending on whether or not they had been feverish or hypothermatic.
When the medicine went down (and oh, how that reminded Alex of a muggle song from her youth) Alex shuffered. It tasted of sour apples, but warm, and she coughed, choking on it, before settling down and sitting on a bed. Within minutes she felt better, able to fold her heavy duvet under her arm. And she had the desire for a long, hot shower and clean clothes. She loved her pajamas, but she had been in them for at least a week and therefore she felt rather slobbish. She wanted to use her magic again, though she still felt weakened from the sickness. This wasn't a miracle cure, but it made her feel better, and she could feel it battling inside her system. She bet that within days she'd be able to run again.
Speaking of running, Alex began to shuffle through the large hospital wing to the entrance, so she could begin to climb up to the Gryffindor common room (or better, the Prefect's bathroom!) to wash. As she went however, she felt a hand hook under her arm. Her senses were still somewhat dulled, and she couldn't turn around as fast as she could have before, but she managed, and glanced at the familiar figure. "Hey. It's been a long time I suppose,"
she said with a small smile, as she turned around fully and stepped away from the figure. [/blockquote][/blockquote] TAGS shona + open OUTFIT here! + duvet MUSIC amy macdonald NOTES sorry about this >.<

A dry cough left her lips as she pulled herself out of bed. Groaning Roxanne pulled herself up. She couldn’t believe that she was sick. She wasn’t too happy with the way things were going, and to top it all off, she was now sick. She wondered if she could have contracted the virus so many others seem to have. With fear in her mind, she pulled herself out of bed and looked around groggily. Her room mates were nowhere to be found, yet they had done her a favor and piled on their blankets on top of her to keep her warm. A kind thought really, considering she was freezing.
Goosebumps formed on her skin as the blankets fell away. She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and frowned. She looked terrible. Bring her hand to cover her mouth as she coughed once more, she decided it was time to find a sweat shirt and make her way to the Hospital wing. If she had caught the virus, she’d be better off there then here. Pulling a sweat shirt over her head, Roxanne gave into another coughing fit. When she finally stopped she found herself standing in front of her mirror. He skin had a sickly sheen to it and her hair hung limply around her face. She gathered her hair up, off her neck and face and fastened it up.
Roxanne blindly made her way down the dormitory stairs and across the common room. She avoided everyone’s eyes and made her way out. She shuffled through the hallways quietly, coughing occasionally. It took her longer than normal, but she did make her way to the hospital wing. Roxanne opened the door and soon found the matron hovering over her. She was forced into a back room while the matron fussed about. Before long she had a thermometer under her tongue and the matron was muttering to herself.
A sense of relief flooded through her when the matron told her that it was the common cold. Roxanne smiled weakly as she took the pepper up potion form the matron. She drank it quickly and followed the matron’s suggestion of taking a small half an hour nap, before she headed off. She always found that the pepper up potions made her head heavy.
An hour later Roxanne awoke, she was still groggy. In her sleepy state she was unsure of where she was. It took her a moment to realize where she was. Roxanne made her way to the small restroom, in the hospital wing and took a glance at her reflection, although her hair was still a mess her skin had lost the sick appearance, and now she simply looked tired. Roxanne pulled her hair down and braided it neatly. She let out a small sigh and decided that was a nice as her hair was going to get. She splashed a bit of cold water on her face and patted it dry with a clean towel. Feeling much better she left the rest room.
As she made her way towards the entrance of the hospital wing a familiar figure caught her eye. Alex. Puzzled, Roxanne made her way toward her old friend. She hadn’t seen her in a while, an odd occurrence really, considering the two girls were in the same year and house. Roxanne hooked her hand into her arm. “Hey you” she said with a smile. “That it has, where have you been?” she asked softly. tag: word count: outfit: CLICKY notes: lyrics: lady gaga- dance in the dark credit: MISS.C <3 @ caution 2.0

TELL ME WHY THEY'RE SLEEPING ALONE NO HOUSE nowhere to call a home tell me what i'm meant to see, won't you stop preaching - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Alex smiled as Roxanne hooked her arm in hers and smiled in a way that Alex was sure she had seen several hundred boys fall for. Roxanne's smile always made her feel reassured- it was always so genuine, so warm and kind. Or well, Alex hadn't really seen another side to her friend, but she supposed that was for the better, and she hoped she'd never have to get on the wrong side of the lion. Gryffindors were notoriously loyal, and so to get on the bad side of one would certainly mean torment and viciousness for the rest of your time knowing them- if Alex had been anything to go by.
Alex smiled back at Roxanne, glad to see a friend who wasn't totally ill for the first time in a while. Her smile was as much as she could give at the moment, but she hoped her friend knew it was genuine. There had been so little to smile about recently. Actually, would Roxanne know that? Alex hadn't seen her since before Christmas, she'd curled up in her dorm since then. Had Roxanne been hit by the virus? No, Alex was pretty sure she hadn't been- Roxanne was a Weasley, and a pureblood one at that- there was no chance she would be affected. Saying that, the other girl looked fairly poorly. Nowhere near as bad as some of the others, the ones who'd been quarantined with Alex, but ill, as ill as Alex would probably look tomorrow. Were normal illnesses still circulating the Hogwarts grounds? Making everyone feel ten times worse than they already were? Alex's teeth practically ground together, though she tried not to show it. She supposed that she was just happy it was all over and done with and Roxanne was alright too.
Alex's head came to rest of Roxanne's shoulder as she hugged her, in much the same way as she hugged Olly who was stuck, head hanging out, in the pocket of her black hoodie. Olly wouldn't mind- Alex rationalised- she'd been hugging Olly non-stop for the past three months. Alex breathed in, hugging her friend in a loose "I'm trying to hug you but have no energy, so can we stand here for a while?" way. It was difficult to explain, but she felt safe now. Maybe it was the green vial she had disposed of after drinking from it, or the idea that there were people she cared about still alive, or that she could see. Whatever it was, it felt damned good.
Letting go of her friend, Alex gave a low chuckle, but after a few seconds it deteriorated into a cough which stung the back of her throat and hurt her head with stabbing like pains. However, she was glad to notice, in between coughs, that it wasn't quite as bad as it had been. Stuff it 'not being a miracle' cure, it was pretty good. "I've just been ill for a while. What about you?"
she said, downplaying the situation. She'd never actually mentioned the fact she was a strange sort of person to Roxanne, she'd never quite had that degree of trust, even if Roxanne was one of the people she trusted the most. Only her and her grandmother knew. Since being at Hogwarts she'd just made out she was a pureblood- and that needed to continue. "You look kinda crap Rox, you haven't had the virus have you?" So perhaps tact had never been one of Alex's strengths- she thought speaking bluntly was better for everyone involved, so she wouldn't mince her words. Plus, she knew that Roxanne, her friend, wouldn't take it too to heart, given that she probably was ill and not just pretending. Roxanne smiled happily. She was unaware of the fact that her friend had contracted the virus. She had always thought that Alex was a pure blood. Not that it mattered to her, it was just that that was the story that she had been fed. She knew that the virus was uprooting many non purebloods, or well those who had a muggle relative in their distant past. Brenan Wood was one of those. But as the virus spread more and more students were finding out that so called blood purity held very little water. It was a simple miracle that no Weasley had contracted the virus.
Roxanne placed her head on top of Alex’s and smiled it was their normal way. They stood there for a moment taking in the sterile scent of the hospital wing. It was amazing how no matter how many sick people there were, the wing was always spotlessly clean. It was a room that Petunia Dursley would love. It was simply spotless. Roxanne would not hesitate to eat of the ground if she had to. The wing was simply that clean and safe. There was simply no way germs could live on in this place.
Roxanne smiled at her friend “Oh you know, just been doing the normal things, Quidditch and other shit like that” she said lightly. She didn’t think much of her friend saying she had been sick for a while. Almost everyone was sick at this point if it wasn’t from the virus it was from the common cold. So there was no need for alarm. No warning bells went off in her mind. Maybe it was her naivety, or maybe it was the fact that she no longer wanted to be affected by the virus, but she was ready to pretend that it didn’t exist.
” No, no virus, just a cold. The matron just gave me some pepper up potion. Dear Merlin that stuff is disgusting. No wonder I try to avoid being sick every year. But yea, I’ve been a touch ill for a few days and decided enough was enough, weirdly enough the roommates didn’t kick me out on my arse when I started coughing. “ she said with a little giggle. “Did you come up for some of the potion as well?” she asked with a small smile on her face. A lot was going through her mind at the moment, but she was trying to focus on one thing and one thing alone.
