JE VEUX TON AMOUR ET JE VEUX TON REVENGEdon't wanna be friends, i want your bad romance Although she usually moved with some amount of confident grace, Alex walked somewhat awkwardly as she approached the done-up Great Hall for the annual Christmas Dance. Her dress was far too short for her liking, the black tights covered up her legs, but she still didn't like it. She tugged at the bottom of the dress and bit her lip as she walked down the wide staircase, staying at the side and behind the other more beautiful girls, who were savoring their moment to walk down the stairs. Alex smiled at them and looked at the floor. She would die a million times of embarrassment should she ever have to do that.
At the bottom of the stairs quite a crowd was gathering, waiting for prospective dates and friends. As usually, Lexi found some people to nod to, to tell them that they looked lovely in their chosen outfits- which was true- but she found none of her friends yet. Sighing and trying to look relatively happy and not reverting to her normal, apparently angry and aloof, expression. This meant the ghost of a smile graced her lips as she looked at the floor, at her feet and at the floor in front of her. Alex knew she looked like a lot of a loner, but she was used to it, people gossiping about the weird girl. Especially tonight. Everybody in the school had been rushing about for weeks getting a date for this thing, and she just hadn't bothered. All the girls were dressed up to the nines and had cut class earlier in the day to work on their hair. Alex hadn't. Her hair was in it's normal style, spilling over her shoulders with a vague curl. The only difference was it was brushed, and so it was silken instead of her normal rat tails. Alex had judged that enough- she never had been good with implements for cosmetic purposes- especially with her hair.
The crowds were growing, and standing on the sidelines Alex still couldn't find anyone. Damn them for making me come... Alex referred to her stupid friends who had bullied her into coming to this things- telling her it'd be 'fun' and she'd enjoy it. Why, oh why at the time had she not listened to her head? The head that would have told her she hated short dresses and people looking at her? Maybe it had been the fact Wesley had been there, and he'd been encouraging her, though she had no idea why she would be more inclined to trust him than her other friends.
The crowd expanded once more, but now the stream of students actually entering the glittering hall was growing. So, with another glance up the grand staircase to her right Alex joined the crowd, allowing herself to be half propelled through to the magnificent room.
It was certainly a sight to behold. The tables that had lined the hall that morning were gone- replaced by a huge dancefloor encircled by small, intimate tables for groups of friends. A bar stood next to the door, serving students and teachers drink as they entered. The ceiling was shades of black and grey, reflecting the real sky outside. Stars shone on it, twinkling at the students occasionally. The room was illuminated by dazzled white candles floating above the heads of the students, all over the room. Alex smiled at the decorations- simple things such as these pleased her, made her a little happy even. Making her way around the tables again, she found one in the corner, slightly shadowed. People would be looking at the loner soon, and she felt uncomfortable. People bursting into the hall had begun dancing with their chosen partners, few went and sat down- and even fewer on their own. Alex watched the dancers, twirling around the Great hall with ease. She smiled a little and played with her clutch. Surely someone she actually knew would come soon?

This was wasn’t his first choice of where to be tonight. But his friends had insisted that he come. Although he enjoyed a good party, he hated having to dress up in a suit. He hated the prep that had to go into it. Maybe that was the reason he hadn’t brought a date to the dance. Maybe it was just because he couldn’t be bothered to ask a girl. The decision to come had been last minute. A few hours ago to be exact and most girls had dates by then or were too proud to accept a last minute date like him. So he hadn’t even tried to find one. Instead he had showered, shaved, put on his suit, sprayed some cologne, tied his shoes and was all ready. He descended the stairs and made his way into the great hall. He did stop once or twice to say hello or greet someone. But all in all he reached the great hall quick enough.
Brenan entered the hall and took a moment to admire the hall. It was well decorated; even he had to admit that. Brenan took a moment to look around for his friends, when he didn’t spot them he grumbled to himself. Where in Merlin’s pants were they? He was about to give up when he noticed Alexei at a table alone. A friend! At last! Smiling, he approached the bar and ordered two butterbeers. Taking the drinks he approached the corner table. Smiling he placed the drink in front of her and his in the spot beside her. He pulled out the chair and sat himself down beside her. “Lexie! Didn’t know you were gonna come” he said with a smile. He was truly surprised that she had come. She had been so persistent on not showing up, but then again, so had he. He had claimed he wasn’t going to show his face here either, but when you have multiple people on your case for hours on end, one tends to weaken a bit.
Absentmindedly Brenan started to drum his fingers on the table. It was a terrible habit of his. He did it the moment he sat down at a table the only exception was if he was eating. His mother said it was because he was a typical male. Whatever the reason was, he couldn’t help himself. As he drummed his fingers he noticed the black dress Alexei was wearing. It was shorter then when he was accustomed to seeing her in, but he had to admit she looked good. She didn’t look as fancy as some of the other girls in the room, yet she still looked amazing in his opinion. She smiled charismatically at her. “You look good tonight, you know” he told her kindly.
He wasn’t trying to flirt with her. He was simply complementing her. He had two older sisters and he knew from them, that anytime a girl put on a dress, they wanted to hear that they were beautiful in it. It was some sort of female need they all had. He smiled at his best friend once more then took his drink and took a sip of it. He loved the warm taste running down his throat.

JE VEUX TON AMOUR ET JE VEUX TON REVENGEdon't wanna be friends, i want your bad romance After a few minutes of sitting fiddling with her overlong and split-ended hair Alex got bored and gazed around again. All the girls looked so pretty here, dancing and smiling with their boyfriends and dates for the evening. Dates weren't something Alex was terribly keen on. It just ostracized people and meant you got stuck with one person for the whole night, and that person would probably be uber protective. However, maybe that was just a small minded view. The popular people in the school seemed okay with it, maybe Alexei was just irritated because nobody ever invited her. Her friends pestered her, but they were all mated up and no one had thought. Speaking of friends, where were they? Impatience, perhaps more than usual shadowed itself on Alex's face, her fingers started tapping out keyboard patterns on the table in front of her, and her hand cradled her cheek as she radiated the bored gaze of teenagers in class- the only difference being that she wasn't.
People were looking at her, but Alex continued to gaze in a daydream at a spot on the opposite wall, at least until a movement near her jerked her out of her daydream. Looking up, slightly shocked from being jerked from her thoughts, Alex blinked a few times, registering the face now sitting next to her, and the bottle now sitting in front of her. "Hey Bren. I didn't think you'd be here either. I thought you hated these things as much as I did." Lexi let out a slight smile, and her hand retracted, reaching forward for the bottle of butterbeer. Even in her hand it was warm, and as she took several sips in succession it rushed down her throat and warmed her, causing her smile to split open a little more and look vaguely happy, and almost as if she was enjoying herself. Maybe it was the drink, or the kindness of a friend, or the friend himself. Whichever it was, Alex found herself feeling suddenly better about the entire thing.
At Brenan's comment she blushed slightly then laughed it off, sipping her drink more. As kind as the comment was, it was something polite to say to girls at this occassion, something which most girls apparently wanted to here. Although Alex considered herself different from most other girls, she did like a compliment sometimes, and she appreciated it, but she wouldn't focus on it and make it the center of anything. She never really did set much stock by appearance, but that was just her. "You don't look so bad yourself,"
she replied, a smile making its way to her lips. She said it slightly jokingly, but Brenan would know what she meant- he always seemed to. Sipping her drink a little more, Lexi looked out at the dancers again, before turning back to Brenan. "No date? I thought someone would have asked you, or persuaded you by now." she commented, smiling. Brenan, she had to admit, was very attractive, and he never seemed to be short of girls who were begging for his attention- or maybe that was just Lexi's take on it. She was sure he would have had a date for this sort of thing, but obviously her assumation was wrong. Thank Merlin Mum insisted I bring a suit with me to school” he told her lightly “Anyways, you know I don’t hate parties, I love a good party, but I just hate this whole dressing up thing, I mean really jeans and a shirt would have been much easier. I almost couldn’t find my tie, was about to wear my Ravenclaw one” he continued in a light tone. Mindless chatter seemed to be the only way to go about things now. Their friends seemed to be away in some corner shagging their dates, and all that was left was himself and Alexei. “So who blackmailed you into coming tonight?” he asked her lightly. He was truly curious as to what had made her come, she wasn’t an easy person to convince, especially when it came to formal dances like this one. He could almost picture one of their friends holding something of hers hostage, promising it would be returned to her only if she attended the dance. It was something he could clearly see one of their mates doing, simply because they were insane in that manner.
He smiled at her as she down played his compliment. That’s what he liked about her. She never ever made a big deal about compliment. She was gracious and then moved on. She wasn’t like other girls, one of his exes namely, who would gush on and on about the compliment, ask what he liked best about her outfit. Or if her hair was pretty enough or something like that. Instead she brushed it off in modesty. He smiled at her “I know” he said in a mock cocky tone. “nahh, kidding, Thanks” he continued sincerely. He appreciated the compliment, especially from her.
Brenan noticed her look out on to the dance floor before talking. “like I said I only decided to come a few hours ago” he said lightly. He didn’t admit that many girls did hint that they would be at the dance and that they were going alone. And a few girls had even asked him to the dance. He had said no of course, and he was quite glad he had. “I see no bloke asked you? That means my threats worked” he said lightly with a smile. He hadn’t really scared any guys off. Although he would hurt anyone that hurt her, she was his best friend and he felt very protective of her.
“C’mon, let’s dance” he said suddenly standing up. He offered her his hand and waited for her to agree. He expected to have to convince her. Yet he hoped he wouldn’t have to. He was a great dancer, but he did enjoy dancing with pretty girls.

JE VEUX TON AMOUR ET JE VEUX TON REVENGEdon't wanna be friends, i want your bad romance Alexei shifted uncomfortably in her chair as people continued to stare at her and Brenan sitting in the corner, talking, just talking at a dance. People gave knowing looks, and she knew, instantly knew that tomorrow people would come up to her the next day and ask if they were going out, or dating. The answer would be no, as it was every time, but it always made Remy wonder why people would think that. Sure, they were close friends, Brenan was probably one of those she would consider her best friend, but she didn't think there was anything there that would define their relationship as anything more.
After a few seconds Alex looked down at the table, at her pink clutch bag and her black-nailpolished nails, away from the rest of the students. Her fingers tapped on the table in a lazy pattern of piano scales, moving up tone at a time as she had once practiced. She was still listening to Brenan, of course, and he would probably realise she was- he knew her well enough to know she looked bored most of the time even if she was fascinated. She smiled at the idea of Brenan being in a rush and nearly putting on a Ravenclaw tie. It was so typical, but even though it seemed so chaotic it was probably planned out, she believed he'd probably put a muggle tux in his trunk 'just in case'. His comment about dressing up totally resounded with her. She liked parties, she supposed, in general, but the having to dress up in clothes that were uncomfortable and impractical was incredibly irritating. For this occasion, Alexei had stopped trying to fit into the latest fashion catagory. Her black dress was comfortable and wore itself- even if she saw it was too short. It covered up her upper arms, showed off her prominant collarbone and with the help of her tights, helped cover her legs, which she considered horrible, and the bruises she gained from banging into things as her usual clumsy self.
Alex looked up at Brenan when he asked the question. She could understand that he knew she would not come of her own free will, and had some inkling that he had something to do with telling her other friends what to kidnap, as underhand as that sounded. "They stole Olly."
Olly, or Olga, was the stuffed lion she'd had since moving to England. She was battered, but still retained her banana yellow colour and plush mane, and was the only think Alexei couldn't go anywhere without. She detested the fact that her friends knew she slept with a small lion, but she supposed she would have to let it go. Her good friends wouldn't tell anyone. Looking up again, and laughing a little in spite of herself Alex shook her head, her brunette hair spilling over her shoulders and face a little, before she tucked it not-so-neatly behind her ears. "I couldn't let them take her! They were hanging her out of the window! Imagine the Slytherins, they would have had a ball... in a metaphorical sense." Alex paused before the last comment, and grimaced and shivered slightly at the thought. The Slytherins would have ripped her apart, and then taunted Alex about it. The cruel, heartless bastards they all seemed to be. But maybe that was over generalisation, and Alex shook her head again, taking a sip of her butterbeer as they moved on to generally lighter topics of conversation. "Even with only a few hours notice you could have got someone to go with you, there are quite a few girls in this school who like you y'know." 'And I'm not one of them, went unsaid. She smiled, and shook her head at his second comment. "Thank you for warding off any unsuitable suitors," she teased, laughing a little as she smiled. She knew he was joking, but she liked the fact Brenan was slightly protective of her- as she was of him. And finally- what Alex had dreaded since she entered the hall. "No! I don't dance!" she exclaimed, shaking her head furiously before pouting slightly for a moment. "You can stand there and offer me your hand all you like, but I'm not dancing. Full stop." As if to prove her point Alex crossed her legs under the table, leaned back in her chair and took a swig of butterbeer. He couldn’t help it, he wasn’t trying to mean. His laugh wasn’t a mean spirited one either. It was just one of amusement. Olly he thought to himself. It made perfect sense to him Olly was her favorite stuffed animal. “Poor Olly, He said with a slight smirk “Luckily for him he has you, who was willing to sacrifice herself for him” he continued. He couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. It was just extremely comical to him. It was also something that he had no trouble picturing their friends doing what they did. It was the type of people they were. They were fun loving, and well extremely manipulative. When they wanted something they would get it. They weren’t malicious, they just wanted to have as many group moments as they could have before they graduated and with only a year and a half left time was ticking away and they were getting more desperate for their group moments.
“Did you get him back?” he asked kindly. He was actually curios to know whether or not his friends had been kind enough to return Olly or whether they were going to give it back to her after the dance. In a way for someone twisted like him the second alternative made the most sense. Because obviously once the lion was given back, it would be easy to simply not appear at the dance. He wouldn’t do that, however, simply because he would have never thought of stealing Olly. Sure he was smart, but he had never been the evil genius some of his friends were. Brennan drummed his fingers on the table as he spoke. The room was gradually filling up as more and more students entered the hall. He couldn’t believe the number of people that had come out. He didn’t think that many people were into getting all dressed up to come and party. He couldn’t help but wonder how many of the males had been dragged to the dance by their girlfriend or female friends. He couldn’t help but wonder if it was just him who hated to be here. Merlin he hated suits. If dressing up wasn’t mandatory he would love the dance, he loved a good party, but wearing a suit just made him so self conscious, even dress robes were better the suits. Suits had to be perfectly tailored or else one simply looked foolish in them, however, dress robes would look fine if they weren’t perfectly tailored.
He shot her a suggestive smile then winked at her letting her know he was joking. “Maybe, but you know no girl’s really caught my eye. No point asking just anyone is there?” he said simply. That was the truth, Brenan didn’t spend much time with girls unless they were his friends or he was interested in them. And lately their wasn’t a single interesting girl in Hogwarts. It seemed as though he had either befriended, dated or simply couldn’t stand all the girls in Hogwarts. There had to be someone right? “So in all seriousness, why didn’t you bring a date?” he asked curiously. He obviously hadn’t gone after the males in Hogwarts who were interested in Lexie, and told them to stay away. Even he wasn’t that possessive of his friends.
Rolling his eyes at her response, he continued to stand there waiting. “C’mon, just one dance, Olly would want you to dance” Brenan coxed. He stood there patiently, knowing people were starring. There would be gossip running a fresh in the morning, there always was after a dance, it seemed like tomorrows the gossip would consitst of stories of Himself and Lexie. It didn’t bother him that people talked.

JE VEUX TON AMOUR ET JE VEUX TON REVENGEdon't wanna be friends, i want your bad romance Alex pouted, but grinned slightly at the comment. "He's very lucky, but they're not that nice! He's apparently hanging from the light fitting in the middle of our dorm!"
she huffed, sipping her butterbeer again. It wasn't just apparently. They'd made her watch them tie her beloved lion up in a thin leopard-print scarf and hang him from the light fitting- sufficiently away from the burning candles. Then they'd dragged her out. Even now, she bit her lip, hoping that the lion had not moved at all. She would die if she got back and Olly was either gone or burnt to the cinder. But of course, she would kill her friends first. Speaking of friends... the sadists barely seemed to be here. She'd seen Roxanne, but she knew that she wasn't in on the joke (or hoped she wasn't). Then again, it may have been her that informed them about Olga in the first place. Alex scowled slightly, reminding herself that she couldn't run upstairs. Someone would be waiting to stop her from getting him down, and even then if the rest of her dorm-mates returned after the dance to find him gone, she would be done for. Alex bit her lip at the next question. It wasn't a comfortable one and Alex probably showed it by shuffling. But she had a duty towards her best friends, and therefore had to answer all these questions. She twiddled her hair self consciously and looked around for a short moment, before returning her gaze to Brenan- or rather the butterbeer bottle he was holding. “So in all seriousness, why didn’t you bring a date?” Alex liked eye contact, but when she was uncomfortable she always avoided it. Not that she could be read easily at all. Much... "It was too late." Well that was one truth. Even if she had asked no one would have come at such a late (two hours before) invitation. Even her friends hadn't thought of that. Now the other truth. Alex shrugged as she spoke, a small laugh escaping her lips, making a slight joke out of it. "No one asked, not that I expected them to do," and even that was only a part truth. Alex was sure if she'd been asked she would have come willingly, but apparently she seemed cold and sulky to people who didn't know her. It bothered her a little, especially as everyone else she knew had been having boyfriends for years. It was a quiet secret that she'd never dated, never been kissed, and that didn't look like it was going to change in the near future. She looked at her clutch again, and fidgeted with the paper label of her butterbeer bottle, hiding behind her dark brown mane of hair. After all of that, Brenan's coaxing would do no good. He would literally have to force her to stand up and dance. "No. You've coaxed me out of one truth with that curious voice of yours, no more. Olly is a hostage! He is in no way influencing my decision now." Her butterbeer was swigged from, placed on the table and then she crossed her arms and dared him to try to move her, or contradict her.
