- - - - - i remember what you wore on the first day , you came into my life and i thought ,HEY YOU KNOW THIS COULD BE SOMETHING CAUSE EVERYTHING YOU DO The petit Weasley knew Ezekiel was not buying her story. To be honest this did not surprise her. He knew her well. Too well at times, but that was another matter. Unlike Ezekiel, Roxanne still had plenty of adrenaline rushing through her veins. She felt full of energy and was highly aware of all of her surroundings. She could smell the fresh autumn scent in the air she was also aware that Ezekiel was now leaning upon a rock for support. Her smile faltered a bit as she asked him, concern apparent in her voice “Zeke? What’s wrong?”. She knew feeling tired was a natural reaction, but she’d never seen Ezekiel this tired. Not even after their O.W.L.s , and those had been some pretty darn late nights. Her concern for her friend was apparent on her face. She would hate herself if something happened to Ezekiel and it was her fault. Roxanne took a tentative step toward the Ravenclaw.
Before she could close the distance between them, Ezekiel did it for her. Roxanne felt his strong arms wrap around her and pull her in. Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him back. She would never admit it to him but she couldn’t remember the last time she had felt this safe with someone. The only hugs that came even close to making her feel as safe as she did at the very moment were the hugs she received from her father. But this hug simply made her feel invincible. Maybe it was because somewhere deep inside her she knew Ezekiel would never let harm come to her. The incident that occurred moments ago was pure proof of that.
“Don’t, Zeke,” Roxanne responded “This isn’t your fault, we both know I would have ended up in a situation like this sooner or later, I always do, I was just lucky that you were there to save my ass” she said as he released her. Roxanne looked up and smiled at him, her eyes clearly reflecting that she didn’t hold him responsible at all for this. She stood in her tip toes and brushed of the dirt on his face, that had bothered her earlier “You need to cut yourself some slack” she told him earnestly as she lowered herself back to her normal five foot height. None the less Roxanne showed Zeke her hands, “Look nothing more than a scratch, we both know I’ve woken up with worst” she told him in a pacifying tone. It was true; Roxanne was constantly finding new scars, bruises and cuts on her body with no recollection of how she got them. They no longer bothered her. What did bother her was that she had somehow managed to lose her mittens in the forest. Frowning slightly at the thought of having to go buy new mittens she allowed Ezekiel to inspect her hands.
Roxanne wasn’t too concerned about the time. She knew it was getting late and that curfew must be approaching fast, but what was life without a few risks? Without a second thought Roxanne Hoisted herself up on the boulder that Ezekiel had previously leaned on and patted the stop beside her “C’mon sit down” she said lightly. He was right, they hadn’t seen much of each other since summer break, they both had some catching up to do.

just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - -He was fine, just fine...as long as he kept telling himself that big, fat lie it would have to be true. Ezekiel could not stand to be seen as weak and he would not accept anyone's pity and he didn't think he could bear it if Roxanne began to feel sorry for him should he tell her what was going on. Every ounce of energy had been focused on keeping her safe, shoving down the ominous feeling that he might drop then and there. He needed to rest and regroup for even his eyes felt as though cement blocks were weighing them down and he hated that she could see it when she asked him if he was all right. "Don't worry, I'm fine...just...just tired." Drawing in a sigh that shook him ever so slightly he knew he was not being very convincing and he seemed far too exhausted to go into a deeper lie.
The ice and frost that surrounded his guarded heart seemed to melt slightly as she wrapped her arms around him in return. Relief swam through him and he began to realize that he was meant to protect her, that he would no matter what happened and the extent of these feelings were beginning to frighten him somewhat. They had been friends for what seemed like ages and he did not know how he could have let this happen. Emotions were dangerous and he had learned that much from his parents' messy divorce, people were made to break other people's hearts and it was as simple as that. Or was it? He wanted so badly to believe that he was capable of something more, that he was not a carbon copy of his parents and their terrible decisions.
Ezekiel was afraid to take that chance, deathly afraid of losing a dear friend...one of his only friends in fact. The joys of being a teenager are endless, a bitter thought but it was not a lie. He felt as though he were damned with responsibility and Zeke was quite determined to do the right thing by Rox even if it pained him in the process. The crackling of dry leaves resounded as he shuffled his feet restlessly, staring at the streaks of blood on her hands. She was trying to reassure him and smooth away the sting of contrition that was building inside of him.
"Ah s'pose ye may be right but still...y'know Ah will n'er leave ye t'twist in the wind, and Ah will n'er let anythin' happen to yeh either." If he couldn't tell her anything else he could say this to her and he meant it, Rox would know that he did.
"Will ye at least let me fix 'em? An' give me some peace o' mind?" A small smile touched his lips as he watched her clamber atop the rock and with a groan he joined her, blue eyes darting briefly toward the very edge of the Forbidden Forest. The wind was picking up slightly, the promise of winter on the lips of the wind as it whispered in his ear.
"Ah'm glad we got out o' there. Ah was beginnin' ter think Ah wouldn't hear the tales of debauchery with yer Gran." NOTES: DONE! WORDS: 500 TAGGED: Roxanne <3 OUTFIT: click here CREDIT: made by HEY BAYBAY !? at caution.

- - - - - i remember what you wore on the first day , you came into my life and i thought ,HEY YOU KNOW THIS COULD BE SOMETHING CAUSE EVERYTHING YOU DO
Roxanne bit her bottom lip as Ezekiel blatantly lied to her. She wasn’t pleased at the fact that Ezekiel was lying to her. She hated being lied to. Usually she hated those who lied to her as well. She knew lying was a part of life, she knew everyone lied to everyone; she knew she had lied as well. It was impossible not to lie, she understood that, but that didn’t stop her from hating it. Especially the big lies, she could live with the small ones, but the big ones were worst. She would rather be told she couldn’t know the truth then hear a lie. She knew Ezekiel was lying to her. His simple words, him trailing off in the middle of his statement were all signals of untruth to her. Yet something inside of her placated her, told her it was okay, not to be angered by his lies, and just allow it slide. That something was telling her to give him a break, because he had his reasons and they weren’t to hurt her, it was for some entirely different reason that he was lying. She knew this reason had nothing to do with her; it was for his own sake. She listened to that little voice inside of her, and let it dictate the way she would act for once. What else was she to do? In this spirit she nodded and accepted his excuse with “Alright, if you say so” . Her voice was soft, the doubt clear. She simply couldn’t keep the doubt out of it.
Her eyes shined with concern for her friends. Not pity, but concern. He was her friend and she didn’t want anything bad to happen to him. She felt that way about all her friends and family. She wasn’t fond of the m being sick or hurting. It just made her feel bad. Knowing Ezekiel would hate the fact that she was worrying about him, she forced herself to wipe off the concern from her face and plaster on a smile on her face. He was a man’s man, to be honest. He wasn’t one for tears, worries, emotions or sugar coating things. He was one of those men, who was meant to be outside, who spoke his mind, who didn’t play games and was impulsive. It was his impulses she loved the most. She loved the fact that with him it was about the risk, the adrenalin rush. It was her impulsive side that took control of her mind when she was with him, for that’s what he liked. And like it, or not, Roxanne wanted to please him, although she would never admit it.
His words shocked her slightly. It wasn’t that she didn’t know that Ezekiel would protect her. She knew that well, she knew it even though it had never been spoken before. That was the way it was. That was the relationship between them. So much was unspoken in their relationship; the fact that it was being spoken now was what shocked her. It wasn’t normal for them. Yet it was comforting. Those were the words that every girl wanted to hear from her best friend, because the fact remained that every girl dreamed of the moment when she would fall for her best male friend and her best male friend fell for her. Roxanne was no different; she was a hopeless romantic and wanted nothing more than to have an epic romance. Yet she didn’t believe that she was worthy for one, nor did she believe that she had fallen for Ezekiel or that Ezekiel had fallen for her. She knew that the words he had said were simply mean in a brotherly way. He meant those words in the way, her own older brother, Fred, would say them. After all, anything more than friendship could ruin the friendship, something she didn’t want. She smiled up at him shyly “I know” she said softly. She didn’t know what else to say, her thoughts weren’t the appropriate words.
She held out her hands once more, once he was sitting beside her, “Well if it’s for your piece of mind” she said with a small smirk. She was giving him permission to heal her scratches. She knew he would do a good job; he was a Ravenclaw that was enough for her. She had learned long ago that trusting a Ravenclaw was a smart move. They always seemed to know what to do. They were some of the few students that seem to be capable of not losing all intelligent illumination that was gained throughout the school year over the course of the summer break. Even if he did screw up she’d just make a quick stop to the hospital wing, the matron wouldn’t be surprised to see her there. She was there almost weekly, one of the few benefits of being clumsy was you were bumped to priority listing in the hospital wing. She was always a quick fix, just not one that could fix herself.
She smiled as he mentioned Granny Molly. She couldn’t help it. Some saw her grandmother as scary, which she could be when her family was in danger, but in reality Granny Molly was a sweetheart. She was the kindest soul and had the biggest heart. She could and would accept anyone into her family. At times Roxanne was sure that if Lord Voldemort were to have come knocking on Granny Molly’s door and showed true repentance, Granny Molly would have accepted him as well. “You really are quite Paranoid, Zeke” she started with a smile. She shuffled a bit closer to him. “Now, why didn’t you invite yourself over to the burrow over the summer? You know Granny would have been thrilled to have another mouth too feed” Roxanne asked his curiously. That was other theory she had about her granny, she was on a mission to feed as many people as possible. To be honest Roxanne shared that trait with her, she loved to cook, and loved it when people loved what she cooked.

just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - -He was uncomfortable with not telling her the whole truth and by the tone in her voice he knew that she did not believe him either. Ezekiel was protective of this secret and even though he had tried to tell her many times he choked on his words, his throat becoming dry as a bone and the familiar tingle of incoherent fear rushing up his spine. His father had never been around to teach him how to become a man and so Zeke had to figure it out for himself and the best way he knew how to do that was possibly detrimental to him. Wanting nothing but to be strong and unbreakable he was so much more aloof than he had been in childhood. It was so hard for him to communicate with others and swallowing his pride was something that induced choking, he could never let go of it. For someone who projected the 'devil-may-care' attitude he certainly dwelled overly much on the possible reactions of those that would find out.
His hands sweeping over the rough hewn surface of the stone he sighed and looked heavenward, "Ah'm sorry Rox Ah jus' can't...Ah can't talk about it right now." The words made him cringe, his own cowardice would always bother him in the end. Ezekiel could face down raging divorced parents, coolly brush off the viper-tongued Slytherins and most of their comments about his scar, and he could defend his best friend against a plumed serpent but he couldn't tell the truth about this one thing.
Staring at the sky was making him dizzy, blue eyes closing on the world as he inhaled slowly. After he had said he would always protect her it seemed as though centuries were spanning between the declaration and her reply. Feeling a twinge in the pit of his stomach he almost felt as if perhaps he had said the wrong thing, that a secret was out of the bag. I know. If it wasn't a dead give away he might have breathed a sigh of relief but at least...if nothing else...she knew that one thing. It was true, most of the emotions involved in their friendship were usually kept under wraps as if the relationship itself was made out of glass.
Lips quirking upward ever so slightly as he opened his eyes he took her hands in his, rifling around for his wand. Shaking hair out of his eyes he glanced at her wounds, surface lacerations really but he could fix them. Gently touching the wounds briefly with his wand he murmured, "Episkey! There, all fixed."
At the mention as to why he had not shown up at the Weasley's he merely smiled slightly and shrugged, "Oh, well...me mum needed someone t'do the laundry an' bring her food. Wrapped up in her latest book an' still is Ah reckon. 'Sides 'tis n'er good manners to show up unannounced." His gaze rose to meet hers, "Don't get me wrong Ah did consider it, 'specially when mum rented every crime movie in all o'creation an' set about to watchin' them all hours o'the day an' night."
"Ah did manage to get m'self a summer job though...workin' at a Muggle animal clinic and at a car garage. Arthur would have been in heaven." NOTES: complete! WORDS: 600 TAGGED: Roxanne <3 OUTFIT: click here CREDIT: made by HEY BAYBAY !? at caution.

- - - - - i remember what you wore on the first day , you came into my life and i thought ,HEY YOU KNOW THIS COULD BE SOMETHING CAUSE EVERYTHING YOU DO
Roxanne ran her small right hand through her hair, stopping when her hand was at the back or her scalp and shook out her hair a bit. It was a subconscious gesture. Roxanne was a hair twirler. She was constantly playing with her hair, twirling it around her finger. She did it when she was thinking, studying, concentrating, laughing or flirting. She just constantly did it, she sometimes wondered if she did it in her sleep as well. It was just a habit of hers. After fluffing her hair a bit Roxanne ran her hand down her neck and let it fall into her lap. She smiled up kindly at him and shook her head. “Don’t apologize; as long as you’re not lying to me, I understand that you can’t tell me” she told him sincerely. She was secretly thrilled that he wasn’t lying too her. It made her feel as though she was worth something, as though he cared enough about her emotions to not want to hurt her by lying to her. She smiled her and patted Ezekiel’s knee in a motherly fashion. “You know you apologize too much, right Zeke?” she asked him lightly. It was true, at least in her mind. In her mind all she could think of was the multiple times he had apologized to her. Her tone was light, and mocking.
She wasn’t trying to be harsh; she was trying to lighten their conversation. It seemed to be getting deeper then she was used to. Sure on the rare occasion they had a heart to heart, but it usually involved them being slightly out of their senses, either due to alcohol, other substances or emotionally one of them (usually her) was unstable and it just lead to deep conversations, about emotions, family and love. But it was only then, other than that, in these moments, when both of them were sober, like right now, they didn’t have deep conversation. Was that a messed up reality? Maybe, it was, but it was the reality that worked well for them. It scared her to think that that reality could be changing. For if it was it meant their relationship was changing. It was this change that scared Roxanne, for they couldn’t be becoming more then friends could they? She was terrified of falling for him, she knew her family would be happy for her, they liked Ezekiel. Well they like Ezekiel as her friend, if he ever became more, which he wouldn’t; they might not like him that much anymore. The Weasleys were a loyal clan, a protective one, sometimes a bit to protective. But that wasn’t what scared her, her family knew she dated, what scared her was losing a friend. She didn’t want to lose a friend. Dating a friend was against the rules! She had set those rules long ago, but breaking it might mean she’d loose him and not breaking it could mean the same thing. She didn’t like this new reality that was settling in.
She let these thoughts take over her mind as he healed her hands. She looked down at her hands and say that the scratches were gone as was the blood. She ran a finger down where the scratches had previously been; the skin was smooth and soft as though nothing had ever harmed it there. She smiled up at him up at him “Thank you” she said with a smile. “I think I might have to keep you around now, you know just so you can heal all the injuries I cause myself” she continued with a smirk. Part of her knew she should learn that Episkey spell. It was a useful one. She knew the essentials of it, the wand moment, the pronunciation and so one, but when it came to performing the spell she just couldn’t do it. She was afraid, what if something went wrong? What if she made all the bones disappear? Roxanne had heard it was possible, it had happened to her uncle Harry when he was younger. He had also said it was bloody painful to grow them back; she didn’t want to do that to anyone. Instead she just visited the hospital wing often. Her cousin Rose was on first name bases with the librarian, Roxanne was one first names bases with the matron.
Roxanne watched the smile that formed on his lips as she mentioned him visiting. “I’d tell you to bring your mum along, but I think all the magic around the burrow and my place would ruin her… Oh what’s the word…” Roxanne trailed of as she tried to remember the name of the electronic contraption muggles used to write things up. . “Ohh don’t tell me... she insisted as she continued to search for the word. She racked her brain for a few moments; “Oh! It’s a compudum isn’t it!” she asked in an excited tone! In some ways she was like her grandfather, she didn’t understand all of the muggle contraptions but they did excite her. She smiled proudly. “And its non un-announced if you send an owl a few minutes before you plan to leave. You really don’t have an excuse you know, Mum and granny, both love you dearly, hell I’m pretty sure if granny could she would adopt you. But then again I think she would adopt all the friends of us Weasleys and Potters.” she told him airily.
She smiled at the mention of Ezekiel getting a summer job. She was proud of him. She knew it took effort to find a job, especially when one was only around for the summer. She didn’t have any person experience, however, after all her father owned his own shop and she worked there during the summers and the breaks. She had had that job forever, and she probably could hold it forever as well. Whether or not she wanted too was a different story. “No wonder you didn’t send too many owls this summer, what time did you have with two jobs! she said wit h a smile. They both knew the real reason letters never worked with them. Her fear of owls, made it hard for her responses to reach the recipient.

just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - - His lips quirked sideways in a small half smile, blue eyes glancing carefully away from her. Sometimes he felt that if anything Roxanne was too forgiving, you know people like Ezekiel...maybe not consciously but you realize that there are those out there who honestly believe that happiness is not something meant for them. That anyone with half a brain would see them and turn on their heel and walk away. Hell, that's what his father did in his own way, take to the bottle until his mother couldn't stand it anymore and kicked him out on his ass. In Zeke's opinion it would have been better if he had simply died, thus a more understandable explanation for his absence. There was definitely a reason why she of all people was his best friend. At the mention of being too apologetic he rolled his eyes heavenward.
"Only t'yew, Roxanne Weasley. 'Twould be too taxin' to do so wit' other people."
Yes, as time wore on things changed continuously and it was foolish to think that their relationship would be the only exception to the rule. The old cliche of falling for your best friend was certainly something he had attempted to avoid but he knew that this was something that was moving rapidly out of his own control and it bothered him deeply. Every situation he had been in since the age of 11 he had felt the need to have some hand in it--needed to know that he could control the people around him, the remarks about himself. Everything. Now that emotions were getting involved it was clear that this was bound for a disaster and whether it be a good one or a bad one Zeke was not quite sure. The possibility of losing someone you had grown so very close to was one of the more frightening realities he faced everyday.
You are like gravity. The thought was a renegade one, slipping between the barriers that had been erected in his mind. It startled him, his back stiffened ever so slightly but he quickly relaxed lest he give himself away yet again. At the thought of being a walking band-aid man to his accident prone friend he snorted and glanced at her, "If that's all Ah'm good fer, Ah s'ppose Ah can make due. Ah'll be yer walking medic anytime." A dramatic flourish and sigh sent him reeling onto his back, the rough stone almost comfortable underneath him a flash of teeth revealing a cheshire grin.
At her misuse of the English language when regarding his mother's computer he choked back laughter which might have been evident in his voice as he nodded, pretending to be serious. "Yes, Ah expect 'twould an' then there would be no livin' with her."
There were other reasons, ones that he was not comfortable to name. Like the many times he had been to Mungo's in between working and dealing with his mother's inability to take care of herself while working on her latest novels. The doctors there were still not sure what was wrong or even how to fix him. That was perhaps the most frustrating of these events--that no one knew how to make him stop having these god damned seizures. The one thing they did seem to know was that they were increasing in severity.
"Ah'll have t'remember t'stop by. Ah always seem ter forget yer troubles with our feathered friends. Never met a witch that was scared of owls b'fore."

- - - - - i remember what you wore on the first day , you came into my life and i thought ,HEY YOU KNOW THIS COULD BE SOMETHING CAUSE EVERYTHING YOU DO
Without thinking about it Roxanne ran her hand over his. “You know I’ll hold you to it” Roxanne teased him with a slight smirk. She couldn’t help but imagine herself five years from now; the vision was a sweet one. She could see herself opening up her own store up. The image in her head was of her pulling open a box, yet somehow slicing open her hand. She could see herself turning around searching frantically for a band-aid or something. She would fail miserably at finding it, but it would be alright because Ezekiel would be there to patch her up. That image soon faded into other ones all of them with her doing something incredibly clumsy and him being there to patch her up. It was a nice picture. It was one that made her smile. Yet something inside her realized that if she were to want him there for the rest of her life and she could imagine him in all these moments that maybe just maybe this meant that there was something else she needed to address. Something she didn’t want to. “Nah, I’m kidding I can’t expect you to stay around me forever, I’m sure your plotting your escape from me as we speak “ she said with a light laugh.
Roxanne looked at her friend as he said that living with his mother would be impossible if she didn’t have her computer. “Is this compudum like a drug?” she asked curiously in a bewildered tone. She always thought a computer was some sort of mechanism that helped muggles write, apparently, based on what Ezekiel was telling her, people got overly dependent on it. “Maybe you should throw it out, you know so your mum can get better?” she suggested slightly afraid. People said she was a bit wild, with her drinking, partying and substance used but she was never dependant. It never reached the point where she couldn’t live without the substance or where she was unbearable. It scared her to think that a machine could cause that much harm.
She smiled at the thought of him coming over. “You better remember to stop by over Christmas break that is if I go home, if I don’t you’re not obligated to visit my place” she told him sternly in a slightly mocking tone. The thing was she wasn’t sure if she was. The Christmas dance was coming up and she wasn’t sure if she was attending yet. It all depended on her mood. “What about you, are you going home? Or are you staying for the dance?” she asked curiously. She was genuinely wondering where her friend was spending Christmas. It made staying in touch easier. She was pretty sure he’d be heading home, he always did, he was good to his mother that way, never left her alone for too long. Roxanne smiled up at him then ran a hand through her hair again, this time her fingers found a stray leaf. She pulled it out of her hair and couldn’t help but smile. She could imagine the rumors that would spread around the school if anyone saw her walk in the school with leaves in her hair and Ezekiel with the dirt.
Roxanne pouted as Ezekiel teased her lightly about her fear of owls. “They are foul creatures, they always bite me, or they refuse to stand still in order to allow me to tie the letter to their legs. I mean really who in Merlin’s name decided that it would be a bright idea to communicate via owls? There has to be a better way. The current way is simply ridiculous. What if a muggle shot down one of our owls and found the letter attached to its leg? I mean it must’ve happened, it just seems like such a waste of the ministries time to have to go find those muggles and clean their minds!” Roxanne ranted.

just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - -The world as they knew it was about to change in drastic and confusing ways. It was already changing now, things between them were vastly evolving into something else...something other than what they had been before. Thing was that both of them were denying it, a foreign and inescapable feeling closing in on two people that had long been determined to never allow themselves the kind of weakness that might involve falling in love. Watching her now he had the distinct feeling that he would always be there to portect her, no matter how far away he might come to be. At her statement about his break for freedom he snorted and rolled his eyes, "Ah haven't run from ye yet, Rox. An' yer a roight scary person sometimes...'specially in th' mornin's." A quiet snicker erupted from his lips, glancing to her over the small sea of rock.
At the thought of his mother's computer being tossed out in the trash he could only imagine her reaction. Pure murderous mayhem would probably ensue and although he could laugh about it now without having done it and without her here it would have been an entirely different story in person. "It can be. Fer her 'tis an easier way tah write her stories an' send them tah her editors. Ye can find almost anything on it really...and throwin' it out wouldnae be such a good idea. She paid a lot o' money fer it."
Holding up his hand and attempting to look serious he smiled ever so slightly, "Ah solemnly swear that Ah will visit if Ah'm not stayin' here o'er Christmas." His lips twitched ever so slightly as he shrugged his shoulders in a noncommital gesture. "Ah'm not sure yet. Ah 'aven't really thought about it. Probably stay here...Mum is probably still wrapped up in her book, no reason ter interupt her burst of genius."
Listening to her rant about her hatred of owls he smirked, trying to withhold a burst of laughter from breaking out. His voice sounded fairly choked as he made his reply, "Ah...Ah s'pose Ah n'er thought o' it...that way. Though Ah cannae see why they would shoot one down unless if by accident. Yer a funneh girl, we'll have ter make ya face yer fears sooner or later...or train a cat to travel long distances with yer letters."

- - - - - i remember what you wore on the first day , you came into my life and i thought ,HEY YOU KNOW THIS COULD BE SOMETHING CAUSE EVERYTHING YOU DO Around the two students the sun was starting to set and the temperature dropped slightly. Roxanne shivered slightly. Although she was dressed warmly, the cold air cut through her jacket and her gloveless hands felt frozen. Yet, despite the cold air, Roxanne did not want to leave. She was enjoying spending time with Ezekiel. Roxanne couldn’t remember the last time she’d enjoyed spend this much time with a friend, or with anyone in general. Throwing her head back and laughing at his words, Roxanne gently hit him in the arm, in a playful manner. “Ohh shush you, you’ve never woken up beside me, you have no idea what I’m like in the morning!” she said with a giggle. He was telling the truth, however, Roxanne was not a morning person, especially when she didn’t have caffeine in her system. Roxanne was a complete caffeine addict. She simply could not function without caffeine. Her addiction started when she was in her second year, back then it was once in a blue moon, when she had stayed up late. From there it progressed to once a week, to every other day to a cup every weekday, to a cup a day to multiple cups in the morning. For without a minimum of two cups in the morning asking Roxanne to do more then be a bitch was simply asking too much. In fact most morning without caffeine she simply could not put words into sentences. It was an unhealthy habit, but it was a habit none the less.
The more Ezekiel spoke of this compudum technology of the muggle the more it sounded like a drug to Roxanne. It was expensive and it seemed to consume his mother’s life. None the less Roxanne couldn’t help but marvel at the intelligence of muggles and their compensation for the lack of magical abilities. It was simply incredible what they had accomplished is the last hundred and fifty years or so. Roxanne knew that wizards simply didn’t have that capability. They weren’t the most evolving people. The wizarding population like tradition and they liked things the way they were and change was simply not coming.
“If you’re not going home, you’re coming home with me! You can’t spend Christmas alone. What fun would that be. In all honesty Zeke, if you’re not going to your mums come with me to the Burrow, Grandma Molly, will be ecstatic, she loves you like a grandson. And well, my family is insane, but we have a ton of fun, we could even hit up some parties together, get wasted and what not” Roxanne told him firmly, shivering once more. Pulling the sleeves for her sweatshirt out from underneath her jacket to cover her hands, Sophia looked around the grounds; they seemed to look even more magical as the sun was setting around them. Roxanne looked up at Ezekiel as he responded to her rant about owls. She could tell that he was trying his hardest not to laugh at her and she appreciated the gesture. “I say we go with the cat” Roxanne said stubbornly, though she had a feeling that one of these days Ezekiel was going to drag her up to the owlery and force her to face her fears. Yet something inside her knew that if she was with him, facing her fear would be a lot easier. Because when she was with him, she was always braver, maybe it was something about him, maybe it was because she needed to prove to him that she was worthy of his time and company. After all her was utterly fearless and loved to take risks.

just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - -Maybe not, but I'm sure it's not that bad. The thought came unbidden through a hole somewhere in the wall of his thoughts. For a moment he thought that he might have spoken it aloud but he knew that if he had she might have had just stared at him. Instead she was laughing as the world continued to turn around them, the steady setting of the sun casting a dark blaze to their evening chat atop the boulder. The sock to the arm made him laugh, a jolt that awoke him from the slumber that came with easy conversation. "Clearleh not an evenin' person either, Cor. Ah think Ah migh' actually form a bruise."
At her insistence he merely offered up his hands in supplication and nodded, "All righ', Ah promise if y'go home Ah'll come wit' ya. Agh, yer grandmum is gonna make me lose mah girlish figure. She shoves food at people like nobody's business." The prospect of once again hitting up the party scene with Roxanne was something Ezekiel hadn't quite figured into the equation. He hadn't even thought about that whole thing again but he supposed that in moderation he'd be the mildly sober one keeping a guard on his loose tongue. Loose lips could sink ships and all that dumb shit, right?
"Partyin', mah tolerance is probably that o'a anorexic ballerina's." Monitoring their surroundings he shook his head, shoulda known. She would pick the cat, wouldn't she? He knew they should be getting back before it got too late. The darkness would bring along its own unique set of adventures in getting back and Ezekiel hoped that none of them involved gigantic monsters bent on making them bite-size evening snacks.
"We need t'get goin', wouldnae wan' t'spend an eternity in detention, girly."

- - - - - i remember what you wore on the first day , you came into my life and i thought ,HEY YOU KNOW THIS COULD BE SOMETHING CAUSE EVERYTHING YOU DO Roxanne shot him a dirty look “If you form one, you deserve it, picking on me. If I were you I’d watch out for bludgers in the next match Greer!” she said uttering the empty threat. She would never aim a bludger towards a chaser, well unless it was a Slytherin chaser, those Slytherins were simply foul gits when it came to quidditch, they completely deserved the bludgers that were hit towards them, at least they did in Roxanne’s opinion. The thoughts about quidditch excited Roxanne, she loved the sport, and she loved the feeling she got when she flew around the pitch with the weight of the beaters bat in her hand.
Giggling at Ezekiel’s comment about his girlish figure Roxanne rolled her eyes at him. She highly doubted anything would ruin his ‘figure’ as he called it. Although it is a very nice figure Roxanne found herself thinking. As soon as that thought popped into her head, she started to wonder what had brought on that thought. She didn’t usually think of Ezekiel in those terms, she usually thought of his as a friend or a brother, not in the terms of he’s an attractive boy. That wasn’t the way they were with each other was it? “If she ever finds out you said that, I’m pretty sure she will tie you to a chair and force feed you” Roxanne warned him with a mischievous grin “Anyways I may be cooking a bit this break, so it’ll be my food you’ll have to eat Buddy boy” she told him with a smile. She added in buddy boy more for herself them him. It was a term she used that directly stated we are friends and nothing more, and she didn’t need to remind him of this, but her own heart? Roxanne was starting to think that her heart was no longer obeying the rules, the ones that clearly stated falling for your friend; especially your best friend is forbidden.
An eternity with you wouldn’t be too bad the uncensored part of her mind thought again. Roxanne blushed a bit when the thought came to mind, she knew he couldn’t hear her thoughts, but she was starting to realize that she couldn’t live by the rules, not even the ones she’d made herself. She hated that feeling. She was starting to feel so out of control. Roxanne tried to force herself to forget any stray thoughts about Ezekiel that were not friends strictly thoughts. She wasn’t going to think like that. It wasn’t a good idea. She’d only get hurt and lose a friend. It wasn’t worth it. At least that’s what she told herself. “You go on then, I want to stay out here for a while, you can stay if you want to though” she said the last part hopefully. She didn’t particularly want to be alone outside in the dark; she wanted to spend more time with him. Roxanne looked up at him as she waited for a response. A hopeful look had planted itself on her face as she waited.

just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - - It wasn't that he wanted to leave and go back to Hogwarts but if he stayed out here he could run the risk of saying something, something he did not intend to say. Had he known what she was thinking he might have felt a bit better but rarely was it that anyone spoke their mind these days. Risks were involved, weaknesses were revealed and the probability of being turned down or some sort of failure on his part was probably the most daunting thing he faced at the moment. Usually Ezekiel was the kind of person that tried and tried and tried again. He had never truly failed at anything he had attempted to do. Relationships were always harder, the constant fear that you might not be good enough for that person often drove people to stay away rather than take the risk and try. And feel.
The cool winds of winter time danced in the air, the slow appearance of stars winking on like night lights. He thought idly of having another smoke but realized that chain-smoking was a rather bad habit he had picked up during his time here. He did it to avoid talking, to put on a carefully constructed mask that few people had ever seen him take off. He could be a case study for any curious psychologist on why boys were the way they were. Cold out of necessity? Or simply frightened of a future that involved being with someone that could hurt you? At the thought of being duct-taped to a chair by a grandmother he snickered quietly, eyes slanting over to her in a mischevious manner.
"The Iron Chef o'the Wizardin' World, who would 'ave thought it," A gentle tease as he stretched out, almost tired. Family had never really been something that Ezekiel had ever experienced. He didn't have siblings or cousins to fight with or play with when he was younger, he just had his Gram and his Mum with the occasional surprise owl from his distant father. He had received one quite recently informing him that the man was to get re-married this spring to some woman Zeke had never even heard mention of. It wasn't quite an invitation so much as a notice. One of which Ezekiel hid from his mother as best he could in the attempt to avoid another night of her drinking too many gins on the rocks and watching sad romances on the telly.
At her gentle prodding Ezekiel sighed dramatically and rolled over on his side, "Oh Ah s'ppose we could stay out longer. Ah'm not gonna leave ye out here in the dark. That doesnae guarantee a safe return fer ye."
He could never leave her out in the dark by herself, not that he doubted her sneaking skills or anything like that but nothing was ever going to happen to her on his watch. He would rather avoid any moral conflicts or a scourge of red-haired angry men and women on his arse.

- - - - - i remember what you wore on the first day , you came into my life and i thought ,HEY YOU KNOW THIS COULD BE SOMETHING CAUSE EVERYTHING YOU DO “Iron chef?” Roxanne asked in a confused tone. She’d never heard of the term before. She found this happened often when she talked to muggle borns. They just used terms and slang that she had never heard of before. Often it was simple things that all muggle borns knew of, making her seem like an idiot, but the odd time her question seemed intelligent or reasonable to them. She had a feeling that this question wouldn’t be one of them. She felt like it was something that all muggles and muggle borns knew of. Something that Ezekiel might mock her lightly for not knowing. He wouldn’t take it too far of course; he was very considerate for her feelings.
Roxanne felt a little bubble of happiness pop up in her. She recognized the feeling. She’d felt it before, yet it still shocked her. She’d never felt this way when she was with Ezekiel before. It was the feeling she got when she fell for someone. Yet she’d never had this feeling for Ezekiel. He was her pal, her best friend, not a guy she could fall for. That was asking for trouble. That was breaking her rules. It wasn’t right. When did this happen? How did this happen? It wasn’t allowed to happen like this! She wasn’t supposed to fall for him, what happened if he found out? It would be awkward and it could quite possibly ruin their friendship.
Roxanne shot him a smile, hiding her thrill and confusion. She was thrilled that he was staying but very confused about her feelings. She needed to sort them out. She needed to figure out why the hell she was feeling as though she liked Ezekiel. It had to be a misunderstanding right? “You don’t have to, I can take care of myself” she said lightly, although, she didn’t want him to leave at all “You yourself said I was giving your bruises” she said in a light airy tone. Usually she’d just have told him she wanted him to stay, but right now she felt as though saying that would be like declaring her love him. Wait, did she just think about loving Ezekiel? She was in much deeper then she cared to admit.
It wasn’t that she was embarrassed by her feelings. She wasn’t she knew girls thought Ezekiel was attractive, she knew he was, she also knew that while some people feared him, he was well liked. There wasn’t any reason to be ashamed, it wasn’t as though he was a Malfoy and she was going to date him. No, Ezekiel was a perfectly respectable guy. It was the fact that he was her best friend, that made it so hard to come to terms with her feelings. She had always had firm rules. How the hell was he breaking them now?

just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - - Lost in his own thoughts he had forgotten that she was not really up-to-date on the latest muggle trends and she probably had never even watched a television much less actually encountered one. A chuckle reverberated from deep within his chest as he shook his head at his own stupidity, "Oh sorry, 'tis a Muggle program on the telly, y'know...a box wit' movin' pictures." Blue eyes watched forms moving on the horizon and he knew that this would be the first Prefect rotation during the span of the night. Digging into his jacket for yet another cigarette, he glanced sideways hand closing on the Muggle lighter he had grown so accustomed to using.
"Ah figure y'could but let's jus' pretend fer a second, y'know, fer my self-esteem." He could not have ever guessed at what was flying through her head as they sat out underneath the stars. There was something to be said about best friends, he knew that he would never wish to be without her. The only person aside from his mother that could tolerate him much less understand him for who he was, at least in part.
"This is our last year, Rox...it almos' feels unreal. Ah'm not gonna believe it 'til it happens...what the hell are we gonna do. Ah mean, what are ye gonna do with your life after all of this..." Lighting his cigarette his arms spread wide as if to take in everything around them and Hogwarts itself. The halls in which so many connections were forged, the halls in which he had unwittingly found his best friend.

- - - - - i remember what you wore on the first day , you came into my life and i thought ,HEY YOU KNOW THIS COULD BE SOMETHING CAUSE EVERYTHING YOU DO A little light clicked in her head. She’d heard Ezekiel talk about the telly- thing before. “Oh! I think you’ve mentioned it before. I’d really like to see one, you know. Tell me more about it. It’s like a picture right, the people move ?” she asked quickly. She couldn’t help but speak quickly muggle things excited her. She had even taken muggle studies in hope of learning more, yet sadly due to the magic of the castle it was impossible to see how an actual television worked and what it felt like to watch one. She really wanted the experience.
Roxanne giggled a bit when he mentioned his self esteem. “Alright, then let’s pretend, so tell me Mr. Greer, a0 what is going to attack us and b) what are you going to do? By the way if you tell me that you would make me run, you’re wrong” she told his in a mocking tone. Images of the events that occurred maybe half an hour ago, she knew he would do anything to protect her. It made her feel good, yet it made her feel something else as well, it wasn’t love, it was almost a sense of guilt, what if she ended up causing him harm. She didn’t think she could live with herself. She smiled at him, placing her hand on top of his, “Thank you for staying though, I appreciate it”
Roxanne knew that not many other guys would have stayed with her, well they would have if there was something in it for them. She knew Ezekiel knew nothing was going to happen, they were just going to talk and joke, there would be nothing more than a friendly hug, there would be no kissing, no nothing like that would happen. That was the beauty of a platonic relationship. Although maybe, it wasn’t a platonic relationship, maybe it was turning into something more. Roxanne would never admit it tonight; she didn’t want to put him into a position where he didn’t want to be.
Roxanne looked up at him as he pointed out that this was their last year. Well his at least she had one more year to go, she didn’t really need it, but she knew her mother would have a cow if she told her that she wasn’t returning for her seventh year. Even her father had gone back to his seventh year for a part of it. “ I guess I’m coming back next year, I don’t really want to, but I’ll have to, after that I think I want to open up a shop, a small book shop, it’ll have books from wall to wall with a fire place up front. And there will be sofa’s everywhere, so the people can just pull out a book sit themselves down and read it for a while to see if they want it. And right up front there is also going to be a coffee bar and desserts, and cookies, and cakes up front that can be bought.” Roxanne said dreamily. As she spoke she could imagine her shop perfectly, it was going to be a cozy little shop, it would fill her with happiness. “What about you? What are you going to do?” she asked him.
